I was thinking that the next and previous adventure should be Savaged. I mean that you would hit a larger target with in our boards plus the whole FFF crowd over at Great White games.

I not saying that either one of you need to know how to Savage - just have to sweet talk one of the Savage God that walk our fourm.

Something to bear in mind: D20, for whatever faults it may have, is an open system, useable by all with a free license.

Savage Worlds, for whatever merits it may have, is not, and a license would have to be pursued for any commercial product, and likely cost money.

Not completely true. The reason there isn't an OGL for Savage Worlds is because Pinnacle wants to have quality control over their brand. If something is deemed worthy of the name then a license is given, which is free.

I think it would be a great idea to Savage these adventures but its not up to me. If anything, a fan conversion can be done and sent to Shark Bytes (the Savage Worlds fanzine).

All it would take is for Denny to send the adventure to Pinnacle, bascially saying "Whaddya think?".

A fan conversion is a completely different story. And that would be a good idea.

I have reviewed the License agreement for a product wishing to become "Savaged" and its not quite as simple as you suggest.

Yes, Pinnacle does manage their gaming license based on approval, but there are costs involved. This is a financial gain for them, not just for free.

Its worth mentioning, but I am not sure if this is something we want to pursue at this time. Although a fan conversion would be cool, reprinting our product with different stats would make the product free to anyone willing to download it from a fansite, and therefore bypass WorldWorks altogether. Not something I want to encourage.

It's true there are licensing fees for Savaged products. They're really not too bad, though, for electronic docs.

However, I agree that the question would be how many sales would be made with the cross license, and whether that would justify the license fee (assuming, of course, that PEG gave the go ahead). "Eye" is what, 45 pages? At that count, the license fee would be $90. So, if it were sold at $10 (the current price on RPGNow), you'd need to sell at least 9 to cover the license fees. After that, it'd be normal profits.

Would it sell that much? Probably. Will it give a big increase in overall sales just because of the Savaged license? Who knows. I kinda think it might, because there are a lot of people who will buy the Savage Tales just because they're Savage Worlds addicts. But, as with any venture, there's really no way to tell until and unless you try it.

And it's not only the adventure that will get better exposure but WWG in general.

The main issue is the time it takes to retool the module with a different system. I'm assuming (correct me if I'm wrong) that Rodney and crew don't have any experience with the system.

Yeap that what I was thinking in my first post - and I was also heading towards a Shake Bytes makeover. If someone were to retool it and the others for sale I truly believe that sales would rise impressivly - just becasue it would be hitting a larger target market.

I do have SOME experience with the Savage game system. In fact it was while playing Savage Worlds, that I discovered WWG. The GM was using VilliageWorks and I was stunned at the quality. I was hooked instantly.

Granted you were right in assuming I had too little experience to mod it on my own. I would be leaving that on the alter of the mechanics god - Andorax.

I could do it, just not right now.

No help there...I've not come within a quarter-mile of Savage. I'm a solid D20-guy.

Heck, retooling d20 stuff to Savage Worlds is easy. In fact, there is a conversion guide in the revised Savage Worlds book, or as a pdf downloadable from PEG.

I'd offer to do it for you, but I don't have a copy of the Eye, so can't really go there.

Ronin Arts Savage Starships is a conervsion of d20 to SW.
12 to Midnight produce adventure for d20 and SW.
I dont know how good it sells, but if you could ask someone
at Ronin Arts or 12 to Midnight how good it compare to d20 titles you could know if the effort of a conversion to SW make economical sense.

It makes perfect economical sense. There's no overhead other than some extra time. Once you get good at it converion its a snap. Not like d20 which requires careful balancing or something like GURPS where you need to be as realistically accurate as possible (I like both systems BTW). The trick is having a quality adventure in the first place.

For what it's worth, I am intimately familiar with Savage Worlds. As a WWG Module Writer, I'd be happy to provide SW stats for my work, or help convert others. But it would have to be approved through official WWG channels and licensing, which (thank the gawds) is not my department.

One possibility would be for fans to make a "conversion kit" that includes statistics only -- as someone suggested -- a free download which would NOT include any text about the adventure. But again, this is a business and we should listen to what Denny says about such a thing.

Has anyone done a real pole of what readers of the boards actually do play? I know there are generic questions about what are you playing... but I'd like to see an actual pole that might help WWG create content for the largest audience. But then you are getting only the opinions of those who frequent the boards. Since WWG also sells at other Venues (RPGNOW.com) they must also consider that audience as well. An audience that might never touch these boards.

As Auld Grump stated, d20 is "open license" and hence would be cheaper to create content for, but if no one buys that content, then the creative time and $$ is wasted as well.

As much as people like other systems (I'm still a HUGE fan of the Warhammer RPG) but no one but Games Workshop creates content because it is a closed system.

I have not purchased Savage Worlds (though it is on my list) yet. But from the raves of those who are on the boards, sounds like it is a blast.

And as far as 3.5 is concerned, I still prefer Good Ole' AD&D (1st edition). I will admit that there are cool parts to 3.+, especially the open license and what other publishers have done (Iron Kingdoms, Dragonstar, etc). But as I've stated in another rant, I buy all sorts of games and gaming items just for inspiration. Hopefully Something Below and subsequent items published will be inspirational for use with other gaming systems.

I picked up Savage Worlds the other day due to hearing lots about it (here and the Forum of Doom mostly) and I like.

I've been looking to ditch D&D for a while, as essentially I can't be bothered with it. The games I use at the moment are Spycraft 2, Warharmmer FRP (new version) and I intend to use Savage Worlds soon.

I've also been intending to play Nobilis for a while, but I can't work out what the hell to do with it!?

Just in case some readers of this thread are not tracking announcements elsewhere, the Arcraetian Adventures will be released in Savage Worlds form as well. It's official!

Hmmm...does this mean that Missing Persons and Something Below will be re-released as Savaged?

12 To Midnight gave people the Savage version of their adventures if they bought the d20 version already. They only did it with the first 2 releases that got re-done, but it was a very nice gesture.
