I keep going back and forth on how to approach it, though fun and recruit are still the main goal. On one level, I want to embrace the theme of exploring new/unfamiliar games. Obviously I couldn't run or be involved with all the games I mentioned, but those are the things that peaked my attention. I am curious though if any of them are even interesting to anyone besides me. If so, I could do some planning accordingly. I might try to have something prepared to run two different things. That way if Aaron's Eberron has a lot of interest there would be something for overflow players, but I'd also have something set up for a second round of games. That way, Aaron could have a chance to play. If there's need to fill out Aaron's game, I would be fine playing one and running one. If I do plan for two things, I'd likely write up at least one quick game for the 4e Eberron setting. Then again, if no one is interested in the games that drew my attention but someone else has something interesting to offer, I could be fine playing all day. A lot just depends on what others are interested in, how many others might be running things there, and what overall is going on at Outpost that day. |

I have VERY little experience outside of D&D, but of those you mentioned Shadowrun piques my interest the most. I am even more interested in seeing someone else's Eberron and DM style so that I can critique and reflect upon my own. On a side note, I have a decent chunk of terrain and would be willing to share it (just make sure to watch out for Cheetos fingers and Mountain Dew spills...) |

Very nice of you to offer to open up the terrain supplies. I think that would definitely help with both having fun and possible recruiting. I'll keep playing around with two ideas I have for Eberron themed demos. Maybe I'll post something later as to the ideas/teasers for them and see what feedback I can get. Ideas are actually the easy part for me, the part I tend to get caught up on is pre-generated characters. I have a long history with Shadowrun, though like several games I am out of date as far as current edition rules. There was about a two year span in college when I played 3-5 times a week, rotating between D&D, Shadowrun, and White Wolf games with a few random other things thrown in on a impulse bases. Anyway, I've always found Shadowrun a pretty cool setting and a lot of fun to play. Come to think of it, there are actually several themes in common with Eberron. |

Phoenix Comic Con is always a little tempting, but I'm not planning on it. As for the additonal games, Betrayal at House on the Hill and Forbidden Island sound particularly interesting to me. |

Trying to find a sitter for Saturday for the Phoenix ComicCon. It is tough, though, since we are having to use on Thursday for a graduation and one Friday for our anniversary. **Fingers crossed that Saturday will work out for us going** |

Well, if comicon doesn't work out and you are up for something else, let me know. I'd be up for a game, board game, talking about the free rpg day or whatever. Related to that "whatever", I downloaded the free D&D Next playtesting materials today. I've started going through them. I've also started to play around with writing up some of the Eberron religions and sites of Sharn for the website, based on the core material. Let me know if you want to include any non-canon stuff, particularly for the sites in Sharn. (EDIT: So far, I have to say that I like the new rules/setup. They're keeping some of the more innovative aspects of 4e but otherwise going back to the feel of 1-2nd editions). Oh, and I hope you have a nice anniversary. |

The con isn't going to work out for us with the sitter details. On the bright side, that means gaming. I sent a text out to see who can join in and we will see, but honestly I am leaning towards casual board games and some discussion of the upcoming free-rpg day (and the now public playtest materials). Thoughts? |

So, we only have a few weeks until Free RPG day. I also found out that Jennifer had to change the date she gets back into town to that day and she arrives around 3pm. That should make things interesting... Also, I had someone contact me about possibly merging groups. They are currently not gaming due to people dropping from their group. I don't know much more than they were playing 4e Eberron less than a mile from Imperial Outpost and that they use Obsidian Portal. June 2: Not getting together due to Jennifer and Ainsley leaving town June 9: Getting together while they are gone - not sure if this should be board games, prepping for Free RPG day or the D&D Next playtest June 16: Free RPG Day at Imperial Outpost - Jennifer and Ainsley land around 3pm, so I am unsure if I can commit to more than the first few hours. On a side note, I spent much of today checking out the D&D Playtest documents. I posted some stuff about it . Overall, it seems to have the goal of making everything simpler, which aligns with what I want in a new system. It does seem to have a little bit of all the editions and some slight tweaking to make it feel new. I am on the positive side of neutral for now. |

I'll work on making sure that I'm free June 9th for whatever, maybe a little of various things. I should still be good for June 16th as well. I have various summer projects that I need to keep track of or working on here and there, but for the most part the next 10 weeks are my down time. It would be interesting to find out more about the other Eberron group. Merging could be good or more trouble than it is worth, but probably not an opportunity we can ignore. Maybe simply start out by finding out about their schedule and seeing what's in their portal? Unless you want to set up a brief meeting at Outpost sometime soon. I'm trying to organize my thoughts about the play test, as well as decide how much detail I want to go into. My general feeling is positive, but I do not see this rule set ending the edition wars. People who love 4e are just going to become to D&D Next what 3.5 edition lovers are now. This edition though feels more like D&D though, so it might unite the older editions again. It seems to be going back to common sense rules and a focus on rules supporting storytelling rather than rules set up to simulate a video/card game that focuses on encounters. Not that you can't have storytelling in 4e, but the focus of the rules is not on supporting that style of role playing. I do though laugh at people who seem to have been expecting some sort of innovation of D&D or gaming rules in general. Of course D&D Next is combination of the other systems, that was the developers goal and way of attempting to unite everyone. Is it going to make everyone happy. Of course not. So far though I like what they are doing and I think it may be more universally acceptable to D&D fans than 4e ever was. |

I also should point out that my afternoons are free M-TH with F-Su being available with Jennifer and Ainsley out of town. I plan on filling that time with board games and video games and playing them either at home or at Outpost. As for the other group, I sent him an email telling him our basic gaming schedule and planted the idea of meeting up at Outpost. I think I also included something about Free RPG Day in hopes of meeting up there too. The play test has taken some more of my attention now. I have read through everything in depth except the module (I skimmed it though). I have said all along that I want a lighter system that has an easier entry point. I would love to have someone over playing board games and get them hooked on an RPG with little effort. I want them to play D&D easier than that damned Battlestar Galactica game, lol. If they do that while keeping interesting player options in combat, I would be willing to give it a shot. At this point, it seems to have a chance and therefore I would like to test it out at some point. Let me know if any of you want to discuss DDN, board games, our game or whatever. |

Hopefully someone else will speak up with an day they are available, and we can use that. Baring that, I'd suggest Tuesday as a good possibility. I'm going to spend at least one day at the water park during the week, which tends to wipe me out for the evening. So as long as we do not double up on that, I'm good. Otherwise maybe I'll join you on Thursday for board games, or even meet early and make a full day of it. Any idea of the times Outpost runs boards games? |

No idea on time at Outpost. I think it is kind of a whenever people show up kind of thing. As for a day, Jennifer and Ainsley leave Sunday afternoon. That means I could be able to game/whatever as soon as Sunday evening. Although, I do have work for a massive five hours a day M-TH, lol, so I can't be up too late. If anyone else has a day or evening that works for them, chime in. |

Thursday nights are Outpost's board game nights. I am headed over at around five if you'd like to join in. Brian said he will probably show. Would be great to see more familiar faces. |

We met some new people and played 7 Wonders (someone else's game) and Betrayal at House on the Hill (my game, but first time playing it). We had a good time, but I personally think that the best part was the fact that we happened to make friends with a couple that is interested in joining the Saturday Eberron group! I figure we can use this weekend to introduce them to most everyone (remember that Jennifer is not joining us this time), give them the quick overview of the game, create characters, discuss free-rpg day specifics, and maybe even fit in some board games. Let me know here if you plan on making it Saturday for our 11am start time. Thanks guys. P.S. Check out and and thread for teasers on the new Terraclips sets that are starting to be previewed. |

Yup, it was a pretty good night. I think that is a soild plan for Saturday, and I'm planning on being there. The only other possible options we could consider would be to play test D&D Next or what is being planned for Free RPG day. |

I thought that we were leaving Sunday for our trip, but I was mistaken. We are leaving Saturday morning. This means: June 23rd: Out of town June 30th: Out of town July 7th: Jennifer out of town July 14th: Jennifer out of town July 21st: seems open July 28th: Ainsley birthday party Wow, things got way more chaotic than I thought. |

Well, that is rather limiting. I can likely do July 7th, but the 14th may be more complicated. At very least, it would not be a long day for me. On a related topic Aaron, did you (or anyone else) have plans to go to Outpost again this Thursday. I did get Zombies!!! for father's day as well as a few of the expansions, so I'm tempted to break it in. |

It was nice to have a board game day. I am hoping for two weeks from today for the next session. Maybe we can actually get some D&D played (I will wait to hold my breath for that though). |
