Here's an idea.  Steve Jackson Games has recently relaunched their Car Wars line.  It started out slow, but apparently they have big things planned for 2004.  Perhaps a sort of partnership deal could be started with them to create paper models of cars (the new version uses a larger scale, and cars are about 2" or 3" long) and arenas.  The cars could even be customizable, with plain bodies onto which guns and turrets could be added.  Arena items could include bunkers, weapon placements, walls, etc.  It might be sort of a niche market, but the game used to be pretty popular back in the day.

Steve Jackson has also recently had to stop production of its Ogre Miniatures.  Though they are seeking an arrangement with a new caster, they might like an alternative solution as well, and paper model vehicles and buildings could be made.  Admittedly, those would be some pretty tiny models.  Maybe too tiny.  However, SJG also has a "macrotures" version of the game in the works, with giant-sized miniatures, much more suitable to paper modelling.

Just a thought...

Never played Car Wars, but I know I have used Car Wars stuff in a couple of Shadowrun games.  If the cars looked futuristic enough (while still retaining that "dirty & cramped" ShadowRun look), and if weapon packs and armor plates could be printed seperately & glued on, then I imagine you could sell to players of both games.  Of course, SR games by their very nature make using miniatures difficult (long range attacks with sniper rifles, overcrowded streets with skyscrappers, high-speed chases through downtown Seattle while you try to give the Lonestar cruisers and helicopters the slip...), and we're only speculating _IF_ SJ Games would agree to such a license.  Still, it's a thought.
