I'll admit I'm new to the SwiftScenics buildings, so I'm sure I'm doing things wrong. First question - do ALL buildings get the support treatment? I've been making fold-flat buildings, and the walls really don't like staying square. I tried doubling up the cardstock (which was maybe a dumb idea) but they're still not square. It's not so bad except... Second, are awnings recommended only with permanent structures? Or would you expect them to work fine on fold-flat buildings? I ask because my first awning just kind of flops out. I think it's because the walls buckle in slightly. There's really no "grip" on the tabs. I used the studio software to cut them out... maybe I should shrink the tab holes? I'm making some supports tonight to try out and see. Fingers crossed. I really like how the awnings change the structure! |

I made a bunch of the fold flats from the modern line and had no problem with the balconies etc. The supports do help to push the walls out, and if you don't glue them in you can still fold things flat. In all honesty if this are new constructs I might blame some of this on the weather. I live on the Mass border and if you have gotten any of the weather we have had recently (very wet and humid) that might be what is causing some problems with your builds. I know it did a number of some of my recent Deadfall stuff. |

Success! With the supports in place, I still had to do some gentle bending of the walls. Then, I taped up the tabs because my robocutter's perforations really loosened them up too much. They hold in place now pretty well. I may quickly cut out another page of awnings just to see if hand-scoring the page is better than letting the cutter do it. Anyway, thanks for the cool products! |
