The subject line was somewhat tongue in cheek. I've built too many western models lately. Let's start by saying WorldWorks Games products are gorgeous and reasonably-priced. I appreciated the effort put into their design, and I look forward to many more exciting products. I'm pretty lost though. I'm sure it's me, not you. I'm finally at the point of putting together some Deadfall SwiftScenics buildings (after SO many hours of making the TLX tiles for a 3'x5' town, interspersed with getting bored and doing a few crates/fences/wagons/etc.), and I'm having trouble with keeping them looking like... you know... buildings. They want to flop all over the place. A single-story flat-roof building is simple enough. 3"x3" flat-roofed building was the best as the x-shaped support really stays where it's put and holds the building square (aside from being a couple millimeters too long and ripping a couple scored edges/folds on the building... my fault for inaccurate cuts/glues I guess, but you never know until the support is shoved in there). A 6"x6" flat-roofed building was nearly as easy; the +-shaped support more-or-less stays where it's put, and the roof slots help to hold it in place. But where it really gets hinky is with the peaked-roof buildings (of which there are many, since in TerrainLinx world I guess no Wild West shops can have signs AND a flat roof). The supports are +-shaped so they aren't held in place by corners, and flop around in the middle of the walls. Also there is no slotted roof to hold the supports in place, so they really just fall around wherever they want. The roof is a whole other thing... aside from being pretty awkward to slide into place without ripping any score/folds, it also is not meeting up properly with the peaked back wall of the building, which curls away from the roof and exposes its pearly-white insides. The front is pretty flush owing to its double-layered signage. Is there something I'm missing? I'm using 110lb cardstock, laser-printed, held together with double-stick tape in most cases (some with a contact-cement glue stick), yet the whole thing feels pretty flippity-flopity. I don't see how the supports will stay put at all in a peaked-roof building. Obviously everything would be more solid if I could glue it together and static-mount it, but I live in a condo and I don't have the space to store a city of permanent models. Any hints or tips regarding what kind of animal I have to burn at the alter to get these things to stand up properly would be appreciated. |

Oh, I assumed they were X's and tried to fit them in the corners. I cut mine to fit for 3"x6" and 6"x6" and didn't glue them in place, everything collapses better that way. Never occurred to me that they were +'s, it'd help if I read the instructions.  Flat roofs that connect to store fronts is on my mod list, they make good places to hide a sniper during a showdown. |

Ok so I stuck in some braces, a 2-storey one down the center and a 1-storey one across, and affixed both to the sides of the house so they don't move around. It keeps the building in fantastic shape. see is if you were using no-overlap roofs with the add-on roof pieces, you wouldn't be able to tuck the tabs in due to the cross-braces being there.
