After a long hiatus from Mordheim, I have found new interest in the game. My playgroup has had a terrain milling session and things are looking good so far. Most of the players in the group have an aversion to cardstock (and rightly so as they can produce great scenery at very low cost from scratch) but I would like to make a few modules in cardstock to show its value.

As GW had some decent punch-outs available with the launch of the game and expansions, my group is aware that visual appeal of card is not far off of quality scratch-build, so I may have an easy time selling this idea in the future as addition terrain. I also like the idea that the terrain could be quickly disassembled in most cases, thereby cutting down on storage and transportation.

What would be needed would be a combination of midieval full and ruined buildings with a very dark feel to them. Scenery additions like wells, torches, barrels, chests, ladders, and interior furniture would be useful. As well, counters like treasure and glowing green/black rock are paramount to the game.

Our current table design calls for a 4'x4' table with 16 squares of 12"x12" or any combination of multiple square-foot tiles. As the new TerrainLinX platform operates with 6"x6" tiles, this is not a big issue.

However, fitting multiple full & ruined houses/taverns/smiths/etc on the confined spaces in clearly static guidelines (according to the TerrainLinX software) may be an issue. I may be overlooking something, though.

Ideally, the ground would be mostly cobblestone and flagstone. Wooded areas (exterior), sewer areas (underground), and wood/plaster areas (interior) would be needed as well as other random textures. The current WWG database should accommodate most of this.

If nothing else, I would love to do a great collapsable city in the theme of Mordheim on a 4'x4' table for my own use. I have seen the demo video of the TerrainLinX software and supported sets and love the idea, but it looks like some of the pieces are definitely not collapsable, am I right? There would need to be tons of multi-level buildings scattered about in random fashion. It would seem that this can be done with a mixture of TerrainLinX and the older Gaming Terrain sets like Thoumont & CastleWorks, but these are far from collapsable. Still, they may suffice even though I would need far more storage space.

Barring this wish-list is given its own TerrainLinX setup, can anyone give me any direction to pursue as far as what I will need to accomplish such a large task with existing kits? What kits would I need and how many pages of total print? This would be assuming an average of 3-4 buildings per square-foot, less for larger scenario-dependent and other important features. I am not averted to putting a large building in one corner of the table. In terms of scale, does anyone know how much room the image below takes up as seen and how many pages?

Now as for Mordheim. That uses rulers for movement right? If you want a more free form layout just make buildings without doing interlocking ground tiles between them. Thats how I uses to do it. I just dropped things all over a piece of green felt.

Now as for green stones. Look at the crystal caves kitbash. Actually the free sample might give you the size piece you're looking for.


ruins are easy to kitbash. Just cut sections out of the walls and floor. Try and leave as much of the corners intact as possible though.

Some people actually really burn the paper to give the edges a textured look. But you got to be careful with that. And assuming nothing gets out of hand thats still real ash that can get on your furniture and figure when you play.

Sewers has some broken crates though. And there is a floating props kitbash under the maiden section. I've used those as broken props in some of my layouts.

Some nice ideas. I will look into it. Before, I purchase the sets, I'm going to make sure my printer can accommodate the coverstock as it is relatively old. If I have an excuse to buy a new printer, so be it.
