Will there be much, if any, visible difference to my build if i switch from 160gms to 190gms card?

Im only concerend about the thickness.

You'll be happy you didn't go with cardstock first. The matte photo paper is DEFINITELY the way to go, as you can tell by my singing its praises in every thread about paper!

I use regular cardstock, then after printing I spray it with 2 light coats of clear matte finish (the same thing I use for my metal painted miniatures). It does double duty; protects the ink from smearing and gives the paper an almost plastic/laminated feel and extra strength/stiffness.

I swapped from 110lb card stock to using Epson's Premium Presentation Matte for all my builds now, which is a matte photo paper, and I actually threw out everything I had built using the 110lb card stock, because the difference in print quality between the two papers was THAT huge. I have not noticed, under any circumstances, any structural issues with the matte photo paper, even though it's a "lighter" paper.

The reason for this is in the genius of the TLX design: the weight bearing part of the layouts is not the foam core tiles, but actually the TLX posts, which have a huge amount of strength due to how they're designed. However, because I am a firm believer in "a picture is worth a thousand words," then if you're doubting whether a lighter weight paper is structurally sound enough, take a look at this:



That is 9.25 ounces / 260+ grams of metal minis supported on the *paper* bridge from the Dwarven Kings set. I had taken another photo of this holding my three heaviest minis back in the day, but I decided to load that bad boy up. I have 14 metal minis squeezed onto the middle of that bridge, and it's absolutely not bowing at all. The bridge is 100% paper, no foam core. I promise you, if a paper bridge can hold that much (or more, but I ran out of minis ...), then a foam core tile supported on TLX posts will hold likely a few pounds of weight. I may do an experiment this afternoon, actually ...

But the answer to what papers I use when is simple: I use a 167gsm photo paper for EVERYTHING. It's more than enough for what a gaming group can put it through.

EDIT: corrected paper weight to GSM. I'm guessing it's equivalent to 65lb or 80lb paper, but gsm is more accurate and easier to compare than trying to use pound weights.
