The last 72 hours have been crazy! I've finally gotten around to making a town. I'm no stranger to papercraft or building models, so I decided to start off with a simple 34"x47" build


I came home from work Thursday night with quite the pile. This is about 2/3rds. I had more to print on Friday.
Unfortunately I couldn't jump right in. My robocutter refused to read the registration marks. I had tried all of the suggestions that google could give me, and still nothing. My friend came over and we started cutting out walls by hand. The next day, after a failed call to graphtech tech support, the robocutter finally started working. I cut all night, and hoped that the very loud robocutter wasn't bothering my downstairs neighbor.


Sorting the sheets to be cut. I really wished that the sheets had the name of the file on them. Some of the roof pieces especially were kind of hard to match with their .gsd's.


All of the floors and posts cut out. I hate cutting foamcore, so I am saving those for last. I also need to print off more cutting templates when I go back to work. Only 80 6x6 tiles to cut!


I spent a lot of quality time with a chopstick. It was probably one of my most helpful tools. So many posts, at least I didn't have to hand cut them!


All of the walls and posts done! I still have to edge the posts. I made a little room just to see how it all fit together.

I'll update more as I progress. I'm hoping to have the whole mess done (except the sewers/dungeons since my DM hasn't told me how he wants them set up yet) in time for the next game on Friday.

Pro Tip: Make sure and edge before glue. Edging makes a world of difference and doing it before glue is way easier.

Just be glad you are doing that with a cutter. Nice start, though I have to second the whole edge before you glue, it will make your post ao much better. Oh and a great color for Himmeveil sets is Sharpie Marigold.

3/8 foam core is pretty standard for TLX builds. Denny builds all his promo stuff using 3/8 foam core, so don't worry to much about that. As for durabilty of 3/8 vs 1/4 I had a wall fall on my TLX setup and it came through just fine. In retrospect I wish I had collected all the tiles back up after the damage to the house. I don't want to cut any floor tiles either.

Nice build on the Maiden, wastedtopia - that's exactly where I am at right now, but I *am* working on the masts - and using the 3D yardarm option (awesomeness!)... it's definitey going on the display shelf. I see you used transparencies for the windows, as did I, though I also installed them for the deck cargo-hold-access covers as well. (Going to build a dock for her to tie up at using the wood pier from the old WWG SkullCove set... still available over at Paizo, last I checked.)

NB: In my opinion a little point of "medium super glue" are a stronger solution for TLX anchors

I was going to post some pictures from Friday's game, but my home internet has been down all weekend. I did not get the whole thing done in time, but we still had quite a bit of village to play in and everyone seemed to enjoy it.

I found it a bit hard to get some of the posts in the anchors. With the 4-way post especially. I think that I might have been gluing them too far away from the edge, even though it covers up the "glue here" square. I have been using Insta-Cure CA glue for the anchors and they seemed to hold well. I had also ran out of Sobo white craft glue, so the rest of it will be assembled with Elmer's since I'm too lazy to drive to the art supply store. I know white glue gets some hate around here, but for me it works great. I apply it in such a thin coat it is nearly dry when I put the parts together, which means less time holding parts together an no wrinkling.

Yeah, the anchors need to be as close to the edge as you can possibly manage it. I had a few tiles previously that had the same issue; repositioning the anchors fixed it.

Yet I supposed that "Medium SuperGlue" are really too hard for beginners about anchors. After reflection an other easy solution/alternative for beginners about anchors must be this PaperGlue (test it if you have other difficulty)
