Here are the images of the 'Return of the ninja' playset, I told you about.

(I had my niece photograph them. So blame HER, if the pics aren't any good.)

This was what was still inside the box. (I don't really care about losing the ninjas and weapons... but one of the red fences is missing and I kinda wish it was still in there.) ...

I've been thinking...

I'll prolly buy a sheet of foamcore-board...
Build 'elevation pegs', to glue to the board in various spots... to help the field hold its shape/keep from sagging, etc...
Then I'll glue the filed-piece to the board, around the edges...
Then, trim off the excess...
Lastly, I think I'll poke some holes in the bottom, and then inject it with 'packing filler', to give the whole thing more structure and weight.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

There have been few nice paper models of Japanese castles but the only one I remember is Himeji Castle (1:225 scale). Its apparently out of print since I just saw it for $59.99 on eBay.

However, a Google search might find a downloadable model at the site of a well-known printer manufacturer which might suffice as a pattern until a WWG model set is created.

Sorry for being a little circumspect about this but I'm trying to respect WWG's policy while following an approach that seems to have been okay with the administrators in other threads.

Canon has a bunch of Asian paper craft models you could go with.

Ok....... so apparently I can't provide any direct links to other models on the Internet. You'll just have to Google for the Canon Paper Crafts site yourself to find their architecture models for Asia.

That castle is still available for free on the internet.
Just Google search for Dragon magazine #121 and you'll find it. The castle itself is very tiny though, more of a display piece as I found it to be tiny even for 6mm scale figures. For 30mm scale adventures I think you'd want to rescale it by 600%....you're better off manipulating the textures in the Thoumonts TLX set to DIY.

Yeah. Thats what I had to do to it too. (I think it was something like x550%, on my printer, tho.) Its teeny-tiny,... but still kinda nice to have around for (exactly as you said) an additional set piece.

Maybe you can build the original sized one, set it on a shelf that the players can see, and say, "Off in the distance you see the castle of the Samurai Overlord..."
