Okay, it has been a long while since I was able to post anything about this Sharn Kitbash.

Well, I have no news yet. I've been way too busy. However, I have a question and request for assistance.

One of my newer kitbashes involves creating a submersible ship. This will require a complete kitbash, not just a reassembling of existing pieces. Well, I've run into some problems with 3D geometry.

I'm trying to create a kitbash that includes an angled wall (somewhat in the form of a sliced cone) but I'm having a hell of a time creating it.

Any suggestions on how to create a wall in that shape?

I don't have an easy way to post a good diagram right now. So this one will have to do.



BTW, I can't use the Maiden's existing shape for the prow mostly because of size and actual shape.

First of all, reconsider whether you can use any of the Maiden's hull shape. Wrong size is easy enough to fix by scaling. Wrong *shape* may still be fixable as well, as long as you can still use *part* of the hull shape.

For example, if you want something a lot sleeker than the Maiden, you could take out the center inch or two of the Maiden, and create a hull that is much narrower and pointed. Figuring out how to cut the curved pieces to achiece that is fairly easy.

Secondly... if you really have decided there's no part of the Maiden's hull you can use, the cheapest (and possibly easiest) way to design a new hull is to make a mock-up and play around with curving paper around it until you get what you want. Then you just scan in (or measure) the curved pieces, convert them into a line drawing, and you're ready for texturing. (Probably want to print out the line drawing and do a test fit to make sure the geometry is right *before* you commit to texturing!)

To make a mock-up, cut out your top and bottom profile in foamboard, and glue them together at the right distance using some foamboard or even styrofoam spacers. You'll want to make sure this is rigid enough so it won't deform when you try the fit the paper "skin" on the outside.

Now pin a piece of paper to the straight sides of the hull, and curve it along the bow, pinning it to the foamboard as you go. You may discover you'll need to shave off the top or bottom profile a little to be able to lay the paper skin over it. Once you got the hull the way you want it, draw a line on the paper along the two profiles and you have your prototype hull piece...
