Aleph- would this be an acceptable thing to submit as a kitbash?

I started working on making a full half-inch wall out of the CWU tower last night, but since I only had about 30 minutes to do it, I wasn't paying close enough attention and only added 1/4 inch at the seam, so I won't build right.

Good news is, I'll have just enough room on the page to make it into a proper half-inch free standing unit, kind of like Mini-Chunk. Reason for me making the modification, well Denny's comment about printing out multiples of the walls and then attaching them to make bigger towers is what got me started.

I'm still quite a ways from getting to a 'final' version, as I want to work out something where the door area will be an arch and you'll build a 1/4 inch thick door to place in the arch. It's still a do-able thing, but the first time build will take some work.

I'll be posting pictures once I get to the point where I've got something started.

Something else that occured to me while brainstorming this, I'm using a magnet strip material, you can get it at Micheals, for my modular dungeon project, and I could do something similar with the tower walls. This will take some work as well. I'll post pictures of that as well.

I plan on snapping some picts when I get time but a basic rule of thumb that I've established...

You get 25 feet on a roll of the stuff for around $5 U.S. It has a sticky side that is covered by wax paper. It's about 1/4 inch wide if I remember correctly, but I'm at work, so I can't look at it.

Anyway, I cut them in 1 inch lengths and on the underside of the foamcore that I'm mounting my models on, I cut of the paper to fit the magnet. I sometimes dig out a little of the foam, but that's not really necessary. Then I peal the back and stick the magnet strip down into the space. You have to push the strip down into the foamcore a little so its flush with the bottom of the foam.

Heh, make sure you do this before you mount your pieces on the foamcore!

I've found that an inch long piece will hold a 2 x 3 inch section pretty securely. Probably not as tight as velcro, but you don't have to worry as much as far as tearing the model when you pull the model off, like you do with velcro. Bigger pieces get more strips to help secure them.

Still trying to get some time to snap some picts much less work on the magnet project. As far as the 'masterboard', I'm planning on using a piece of sheet metal that I'm going to put a wooden border around.

No, it won't be very portable as I'm sure the weight will be up there, but it also won't slide on the table either. I'm trying to get to the hardware store to look over what they've got, I'm hoping I can find a thin enough piece in the size I want. I should be able to, but until I look, I won't know.

Hopefully I'll either be able to get to it between now and Dec 3rd, but I'm not completely sure. Depending on when I can get out of work today, I might be able to secure the piece.

What size are you looking for?

I found a 2' x 3' magnetic dry erase board at Costco for $20. It comes with a ton of dry erase pens, magnets for notes, and even a magnetic eraser.

I'm thinking about whether or not it'd be worth it to buy a few and stick 'em together for a nice, big MagnetMasterboard. The only thing really standing in my way is that I'd have to re-base my MiniChunk and P&I tiles (remove the velcro and add magnet strips).

[edit] Oh, yeah... that board also comes with light gray pips printed on it every 1", making a great 1" grid that's unobtrusive.
