The other mods/kitbashes I'm working on are: "Something_Bad...", meaning something really bad apparently happened in a room on a FL vessel, and "Bughunt Halls", not unlike your struts, this 'bash includes vertical wall braces and horizontal pipes to give corridors more of a creepy, claustrophobic, cluttered or 'lower levels' look

Looks really cool, btw! I'm betting you could probably reduce the size of the "handle" on the slider though, so it's less obvious (ie doesn't stick as far out from the surface of the wall). Great idea all around!

Good suggestion wrt the length of the handle cross piece. I had already thought of it, but got too lazy to go back and resize that piece again (I've spent alot of time photo shopping these kits, and just ran out of steam). I ended up just trimming it after it was printed. The wall mount piece that covers the handle has already been resized down in my new master, but the one in the testbuild photos was already printed, so it looks a little bigger than the final version will be. Even so, with the bigger clunkier one, it still looks OK. I didn't want to make it too small because there's a real risk of accidentally gluing it right to the wall in the final stage of assembly, which would prevent sliding, which would be a heartbreaking shame after all that previous work (which may or may not have already happened to me; I won't confirm or deny it either way).

The nice thing I accidentally discovered about these side slider door channels is that they still work with only one side of the handle protruding (i.e. only one side of the door and wall has a handle), which offers even more flexibility about where in a model they can be used.

I'm making a standard o.o.b. FL vessel with as many of these side sliders as possible so it may take a little time to get it all done and assembled. I'm doing the larger hatches from the corridor to the cargo modules into two-part side sliders as well (still in the photoshop phase). These will all get photographed and uploaded within the next few days.

I'm also working on a couple of other paper model projects that will use the FL and retrofit sets. The first, called the "Jumpin' Jenny" is an original deckplan using FL and FL Retrofit but attempting to build up a more substantial spaceship around the interiors using exclusively all FL parts only. This one is already started and mapped out pretty well. Widened bridge is already done.

Another paper modelling project called "Yellowstone" still in the conceptual stages will attempt to incorporate much the very cool FL interior stuff into an existing (scaled up) spaceship exterior model, to see if these two types of things can be effectively 'married' just for fun.

I'll keep a gallery image diary to keep folks up to date on progress.

Nice mod, Hot4Darmat!

Just wondering... wouldn't it work just as well to slide the door with the existing tabs sticking up from the door? Ok, maybe not *just* as well, because you'd have to keep the door from going at an angle. But it would save you the hassle of making the handles etc.

Cool stuff! One suggestion though: how about mounting the actual slider handle in a vertical orientation? It would hug the wall better and would probably be less fiddly in use.

If you mean the cover to the handle, you're right. Could do. The next version I use will be more of a straight square box, so it won't matter as much what the orientation is. The original was meant to look like a wall console, and to cover as much of the wall notch opening as possible. Turns out it barely matters.

I've just added a few more images of my FL build with side sliders.

After seeing KanedaMike's sweet little bash of a coffin, an axe and a stump, I got to thinking about the importance of those tiny little details that draw the eye and make a model build into a 'scene'. I recall all those times I looked at models railroads at train shows, or dioramas, and realized that it's those little details or scenes that stick out, and that you remember. Sure the trains, the landscape and the buildings are all nice, but it's that little car crash, or the argument between tiny people, or the moving carousel in the playground that you remember. So I added something to my FL build to try to capture that idea.

I also had to rip apart my FL build after realizing I could squeeze a couple more side sliders into it (not sure what I was thinking, or why I missed it before), so final shots of the final build are going to take a little longer.

... That has got to be the COOLEST kitbash EVER!!

I do like the conduit box in the floor as well. Very nice addition to the build and great that it fits inside the base!

Adds a little something extra to the build and can keep your players guessing as to whether there's something below the floor or not!
