Well, as luck would have it, the ol' adventuring party is heading down into a mine. Because of that, I've put my project on hold and decided to tackle "CaveWorks."

For the most part, "CaveWorks" was really where WorldWorksGames began to finalize how certain things would be done for future sets. Still, I thought it could benefit from some improvements: foam core bases, KaneLynX, and the removal of a "masterboard," which I feel takes away from modular dungeon-type sets.

One of innovations I created was interchangeable tiles. Rather than create a bunch of different tunnels, each with it's own base (mine rails, rocky ground, rushing river, hot lava, etc), you can simply leave the tunnels devoid of a floor tile. Instead, apply the tile to some posterboard, cut to fit, and viola! You have a really simple way of cutting down on the amount of models needed.

Anyhoo, here's what I've come up with so far.

Good point about the base inserts - with the walls glued to a foamcore base, there's no need for any one permanent floor.

Looks like some neat work there, dmmagic. Just out of curiosity, have you had a peek at the adventure "Something Below"? It expands on CaveWorks, and might have some bits you'd be interested in for your project.

The new model pieces in the set include:
Dark Water masterboard tile
Creavasse waterfall
Waterspouts
2x2 and 4x4 shafts/pits
Mine rail T and X
Assorted small risers (1 square, 2 square, 4 square)
Rock piles
Mine supports
A modified mine cart and a stone vault
A working mine lift
and a Mine Entrance (transition from an exterior setting such as SeaWorks Skull Cove cliffs).

Ooooh...I like! CaveWorks is one of my favorite sets and this just makes it better! Only problem I could possibly see is the existance of large rooms to go with the wonderful corridors. Any ideas?

Very nicely done. I just had another...hm...brainstorm seems too strong a word, but it will do; what if you took each cavern peice and instead of the slightly rounded shapes they currently each have, make them have a square/rectangular footprint, with sections basically extending past the walls to make them all fit squarely? Kind of hard to describe the exact thought...that make any sense? In this way, you just squeeze in floor tiles in between and voila! Although, oddly shaped rooms would have to be done in the way that you are currently doing them, of course.
