SeigeWorks is the first in our ground-breaking series of fully functional model siege engines.

Bash fortress, troop and monster alike as you strike with the mighty medieval Trebuchet or sturdy Catapult. Soft missiles can be launched as far as 4 feet! Follow up the bombardment with the rolling battering ram and multi story rolling siege tower with opening assault door.

Other items in the set include the [sadly] non-functional Bombard, a system of trenches and campaign tents.

Disclaimer:
This model set requires modeling experience and lots of patience to build and is not recommended for beginners.

Warning:
Flinging missiles of any size or weight can be hazardous! NEVER aim at people or animals, save it for your castles! WWG recommends the use of protective eye gear when operating this equipment.

Catapult:

The mangonel-style catapult is similar to weapons used since classical times. While the full-size weapons were powered by twisted skeins of rope, ours uses a single rubber band. It is capable of throwing a 0.3g missile on a flat trajectory, ideal for use against fortifications or troops in the open. Range is about 3 feet, with a bounce to 4-6 feet. The catapult is 3 inches high and is made of 4 sheets of cardstock. Use the optional wheeled platform for extra mobility.

Trebuchet:

Our stone thrower has an optional sling for extra range, about 4 feet with a 0.2 g missile and a counterweight of 61g. Its high, arcing trajectory is useful for pummeling the inside of fortifications. It’s powered by weights added to the swinging basket, coins are ideal for this purpose. The trebuchet measures 3 X 3 X 3 in and is made of four sheets of card.

Tower:

This four story tower will crush all resistance! The wheels roll and the gate drops to release mayhem. Use the fighting top for archery or spell support, the lower two levels have arrow loops. Ladders are provided capable of holding minis. The tower is 3 x 4 x 9in high and is made from 10 sheets of card.

Ram:

Poke a hole with this rolling medieval ram. The removable roof shelters troops while the pointy end does the damage.

Also included:

Trenches with sappers tunnel
Simulated stone, iron and flaimng ammo
Tents with optional gazebo-style base
Siege ladder that holds minis
And more!

This is one of those products that generates its own need. I just have to get this for work -- lots of cubicles. (Nerf ammunition of course.) Since I work for the Navy I'll have to deploy these aboard the Maiden so that I can claim its "work-related."

Disclaimer: Final operational deployment will depend on proper test & evaluation, including safety, since I don't know the size/weight of the ammunition that can be effectively used.

Looks pretty good, although I'd be very keen to get a plain wooden version of both the ram and the siege tower - my first thought on seeing the overview picture of the tower was 'why does it have playing cards stuck all over it?'. Not convinced that all the (presumably) metal plates actually add anything to the model aesthetically. They just don't look 'metal' to me.

How about it Pall, can we get one in plain timber colours? That would seriously rock ass; without it I've gotta admit I'm unlikely to 'rush out' and pick this up.

Very cool stuff. I can't believe you actually made the catapult and trebuchet functional, that's really cool!

Suggest you change the metal plates to cow hides. Wet hides were used to stop fire arrows, and slow down burning oil. Other wise they look great.

Don't give up on the hammered metal plates, the pics do not do it justice!! As always, it's up to you to decide what to print.

Don't mind the crappy builds. As much as I love modelling I am unbelievably impatient when building what I make. As soon as it spits out of the printer I am hacking and slashing at it. My edging is also bloody awful. You all can do much better!!!!

That's awesome - now I'm officially excited

This afternoon's shoot went very well. Here's the highlights:

Trebuchet:
A 0.1g projectile was used, increasing it to 0.2g or even 0.3g made only a slight difference in performance. I used a crumpled ball of 25 lb paper appox 2 in square.
Distances measured are from the Trebuchet axle. The sling was used for this shoot.

Firings: 20
Distance of projectile impact: Most impacted at 3.5 ft.
Longest distance: 6 ft
Crossrange: 9-12 in. Most impacting within 3 in of center line.
Rollout distance over flat [carpeted] surface: Average of 1 ft.
Height: Average of 1.5 ft.

Catapult:
A 0.3g projecticle was used, a paper cube supplied with the set. Distances measured are from the elastic band.

Firings: 15
Distance of projectile impact: Most impacted at 3.5 ft with very minimal spread.
Longest distance: 3.5 ft
Crossrange: 4-5 in.
Rollout distance over flat[carpeted] surface: 1.5 ft.
Height: Average of 1 ft.

Heh, heh, heh...

Not quite what I was expecting, and in truth I have no need of functional siege engines, but it sure is a cute idea.

One of my fellow teachers at the summer festival teaches a course on medieval life, I will let Biz know it is there.

*EDIT* I see that the siege tower is more of a juggernaught than a malvoison.

The more I look at the pics...the more interested I become. The Black Powder Revolutionaries may have great use for these engines of siege...

I have to agree with the dissenters: too chunky, not historical in design, and I will never use their "functionality" features at my gaming table. I play strictly fantasy, for medieval technology games, and I prefer a historical 'accuracy' for my siege engines. This is the first time WWG has disappointed me. Sorry Paul, Denny, but this is too far into the 'fantastic' realm for me. I hope I am in the minority, though. Cheers!

Well it would be impossible to please everyone all of the time and we do understand everyone has their own unique tastes. Gamers playing in the more "fantastic realms" will have a lot of fun with this set. Personally I can't discount the "cool factor" of this set and Paul has done some incredible work creating working Siege engines. I've seen a video of these things in action and all I can say is FUN! FUN! and more FUN! Nevermind gaming, think of the mayhem you could unleash at the office!

However you dice it I have a feeling a few of you will be changing your minds when you see the final release. I think the lesson Paul and I learned here is that there are limits to what you can show the public from early "behind the scenes" development. We thought opening the window would create a more interactive atmosphere. Unfortunately in some respects this approach seems to do more harm than good.

We havent completely discounted anything said here and we are rethinking some elelments of the set based on your suggestions. Point being, we do care deeply about what you guys think.

I find it odd to complain about lack of "historical accuracy" from a company that designs fantasy models. From my experience most people who are THAT into historical gaming scoff at cardstock anyway. I guess I'm a little bothered because the poor guy worked his ass off and showed off some preliminary pictures he was very excited about and all the "faithful" start posting complaints and disappointment. Judge it based on its own merit rather than your notion of "historical" accuracy. I'm buying it now just on principle.

Too much of a toy? From people who play with little army men?? C'mon now, its ALL about the toy factor! I love minis and models for that reason.Heck, if it has moving parts even cooler!

I hope you guys reconsider somewhat on the pre-release photos. Its nice to see how far along things are going and to have some input.
