Heh, this set is looking pretty cool, curious question, is it designed to sit on the Streets of Mayhem tracks? This would be really cool but it's tricky to tell atm.

Oh man ... I knew this set was going to be cool. I mean, I knew it was going to be cool. I just didn't picture it in my mind as cool as that last photo.

My 6 x 6 tile Mayhem layout is pretty much set, and there were no rails included. I figured that would come later, once the current set-up got some good gameplay. I was eagerly awaiting this set, but for later.

No more. The city planners have decided that streets must be torn up and buildings must be leveled in order to make way for the new Super Mayhem Area Rapid Transit.

Perhaps the renovation project won't be too involved. I can always go with elevated tracks.

This is probably a stupid question but does the Rail set have a station or dock? I'm thinking ticket/toll booths, and a covered area where passengers wait to embark/disembark. If so, would it work as an outdoor/raised-platform thing or is it meant to be enclosed in four walls? and would look odd as an elevated train station?

Either way, this is definately going to get added to Mayhem.

The last time I heard figures, they government was spending about $25K per passenger to subsidize getting folks from Tacoma to Seattle, and over 50K per passenger to get them south to Seattle from Bellingham.

I remember one guy saying if they would just pay that money directly to those folks to stay home, it would relieve traffic more than the train.

The problem with it is that it's not much help to commuters, and the SeaTac leg is primarily for business travelers. The whole point of the project was to relieve over-crowding on roads, yet only a few thousand use it daily. I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to drop the SeaTac leg entirely.

Ah well, Mayhem will not have similar issues. The cars will run on time and be grafitti free. There's no crime in Mayhem either. A small zombie problem ... but no crime

I agree with CCotD that the line is most definitely going to be completed. If you travel along the route you will see so much construction/destruction that it is almost possible to believe it'd cost just as much to back out and put things back as they were than it will to complete the project.

I think the Seatac-University leg is just the first step though and has the potential to be expanded later on. The only leg I'm not convinced will happen is the proposed extention across the I-90 bridge which would cancel the agreement with Mercer Island that enabled them to build the bridge in the first place., and it'd only take one train to break down to cause a lot delays.

My wife and I use public transport a lot... largely because I'm so used to it from England, and even Chicago had a pretty good system compared to other US cities. While I know a lot of people will continue to use their cars, business customers and tourists will make up a large number of the users, which will upset taxi drivers. I think the first step is to build it, then they will need to kick in a decent marketing campaign to get people to use it. I know I'm going to use it... and I'm very near to closing on a new construction house 5 minutes from one of the stations... so I certainly have high hopes for it.

Getting back to Mayhem Rail though... I think my Mayhem is very different from yours... since I use it as a nickname for a rough area in one of the crime ridden sectors of Mega-City One (ever read The Pit?). I can see my gangs not only scrawling their gang logos on the trains, but even causing the odd train crash now and again. I already have some rules sketched out to use the trains in Gangs of Mega-City One as a hazard...

I am glad that a less vandalized version will be available.

One quick question - will there be wider turnouts for the corners than those included in Streets of Mayhem? Every time I look at those 90 degree turns I see death tolls skyrocketing as train after train jumps the tracks.... (A less steep elevated approach would also be nice, again, the carnage is terrible at those areas....)

The steep ramps are functional for games, but I agree they are a bit much on the visuals.

As I am now redesigning my Mayhem layout to accomodate rails due to the lovely new kit about to hit the market, I've come to the conclusion that I'm just going to have them all raised - no ramps. Haven't looked too closely into the stairs needed to make it to a raised platform, but I'm sure there are several alternatives if the new Rail set doesn't already include stailrs.

Something from Platform Commander perhaps? Or a rework to the pedestrian overpass from the original SOM kit?

Haven't really given any thought to those sharp 90 degree corners. Tile space is limited on my tabletop, I'd rather not need two or three tiles to make a more gentle curve. But that just gave me a kitbash idea ...

As an aside - SoM is seldom used because I tend to use more archaic settings - 1880s is as close to Modern as I normally get. I have used it with All Brains Must be Eaten and for XCom/Spycraft. (In fact it was the first terrain that I ever used when running a Spycraft combat to try out the rules,)

I still want a steam era set, dang it!

I know that Scott was very close to completion but a new job pushed the finish line a little further out than he expected. If he's really swamped we'll see if we can help him get things done sooner. We are trying our best to make this available early December.
