Of course, you could use real mushrooms on your gaming table... if you get those large ones, you could twist a minis base a little on top to get them to settle in place.

I'm picturing more of a haunted forest with possibly a ranshackle hut and maybe a ruined well... spiderwebs between the trees, hanging skeletons... gnarly trees... gravestones... etc. But, it's too early to tell so I'll stop guessing and wait for those preview shots to show up in a few weeks/couple of months or so.

Not sure WHAT to make of this, but my initial reaction is not enthusiasm. Of all the kits I've purchased (just about all of them in fact) the only item that I can recall not liking is the tree from Dinas Ffordd. So if this kit is anything like those er, ... I'll pass.

I had experimented with something similar myself, without the horizontal pieces, and it looked "okay" to my eyes. But after spending some time on the graphics and getting it to all come together, I decided that perhaps trees are just not cut out (no pun intended) for cardstock. The four panel tree (two flats that form an X when viewed from above) is just not quite what it needs to be.

I even (shock) decided to blow some bucks on the Microtactix Scenics kit (figuring at least I would get a wider variety of trees than the two I tinkered with - their kit gives you 7). But even then, the classic X just doesn't really work IMHO, no matter how many varieties of trees you have.

But if I decided I needed some (my initial intent was for parkway trees down the streets of Mayhem, and for the courthouse lawn, that sort of thing) I would go with the X shaped ones, and NOT include the horizontal platforms. They just ruin the visuals for me.

It will be interesting to see what this is. Actual trees, or perhaps a mental hospital on the outskirts of town?

Well, the title would seem to suggest "trees." You can, indeed, have trees without wilderness - but Scott appears to want to clear away misconceptions floating around this thread which have focused on trees.

A treeless grove? Is the "horror" label on the WIP meter meant to suggest an ecological disaster? Or demonic lumberjacks?

Maybe the name was only selected for flavor purposes. Is this set a cemetary? A residential district?

I am guessing this is the suburban expansion mentioned elsewhere... Wildwood Grove sounds like a subdivision if you ask me.

I'm still thinking this is a Sanitarium/Retirement Home, which means y'all are probably right this is a suburbs kit of some sort.

Sounds like a place to dance naked around a roaring bonfire at midnight on Midsummer's Eve.
