I've never tried using a rotary cutter, but I use a simple chop-handle style like from Office Depot for nearly everything I do.

I have no trouble lining up the two ends properly. Sometimes it's necessary to cut a notch of paper away on either end so you can really get a good visual for where the line is, but that's a simple snip with some scissors.

I only use a steel ruler and hobby knife for small, delicate cuts.

Thanks everyone! I plan on using the knife on the smaller detail cuts anyway so it sounds like the wisest course to just go that way for the whole shebang.

Now if only I could develop some real manual dexterity!
