I mentioned in things I'd Like to See about 90-degree overlapping roofs for VW, but wondered if anyone had already found a way to do this. First, to have an L-shaped building with roofs that intersect so the top ridge of the one roof matches to the top ridge of the other at 90 degrees, while the bottom is cut at an angle that would actuall put the overhang of the second roof into the space of the first. Gads, hope I am explaining this so it can be understood. There is some room to do this with the lean-to style roofs, but not exactly what I am looking for here. I have a plan for basically a "U"-shaped building, using the area of 5 regular VW houses for the base of the U and one more for each of the stems. Inside will be a small pub, with one of the stems as the propriaters's suite, and the other a store-room. I want the stem roofs to run into the main roof, but can do with the lean-to roofs if necessary. Any ideas, or should I just hold on till VWU comes along? Thanks for your help.

If this is what you are asking about, I can explain how to cut the roof sections to get the 90° angles with the ridges of the two roof sections and the inside and outside roof corners meeting. The structure is just something I tried to see how it would look. It is printed on plain paper with kind of a tiled texture. Matching the roof textures and the wall section textures of the World Works stuff would take more time and effort.

That would work - I had in my mind more of an extended dormer roof, if that help visualize it, that comes out from the one roof. Your way looks much more do-able. Might use that as a template and cut and past some roof pieces on to get the tiles and shingles matched up. Hmmmm.

You can place the horizontal section anywhere along the vertical section to get more of a bump out along the outside walls. The corner in that case would not be flush.

Getting the roof angle cuts where they join together is the most critical part of the operation. Having roof overhangs complicates the process, too.

Yes, that is it exactly. Any chance you have a template? With that, it would work for a right or a left angled building without any modification. That would do for both branches of my u-shape building.

No template, that would limit you to just one size building, but these pictures show how to measure for the angle cut on the roof. It would probably be easier to construct the roof first with the gable ends attached then work on the side walls to get their lengths right. Matching the textures would be the most difficult part. You also have to keep in mind any roof overhang.







This even works with buildings that are different widths and thus have different roof pitches. Building 1 would be the basic rectangular shape with Building 2 having its roof cut at an angle to attach to Building 1's roof. The angle cut on Building 2's roof derived from measuring 1/2 the width of Building 1's endwall like in the pics.

I'll have to give it a try. I'm too used to packaged model kits and such, and kitbashing and scratchbuilding are new to me. Been working on my GASLIGHT airship for months now and had to go to a convention with it half done. Maybe by next September, it will be finished. The roof is for a game I am working on for a Flintloque scenario with dwarves attacking a dog unit in a town. This one building needs to be set up inside and out as it is the one that will most likely become the combat area, as the dwarves are to capture a dog general who will be in the building. Looks to be my first permanent structure made almost entirely with WWG products. Just need to bash a roof together. Thanks for the assistance. I have a few regular roof pieces put together that I can measure from. Still, it would be so much easier if it would be put into the Village Works Ultimate (hint, hint, hint).
