Well, I excitedly started assembling my Streets of Mayhem set today. I did everything right! I got the foam core! The glue pen! The hobby knife! I calibrated my printer, set the scaling to "none" and put my print quality to BEST!

And then the printer printed my sheets out crooked.

Ha ha, of course. I didn't actually realize this until after I had gotten halfway though cutting my ground tiles off the foam core! My tiles were looking great! Uhh. . . but they weren't matching up properly. . . So I measured them out to see what the problem was and this is what I got.



No no, I didn't cut into them incorrectly. I was being very careful the whole time! Oh well. . . The nice thing about having bad tiles is, as a newbie, I got to try some different things. I did some edging with a sharpie and figured out how to make it bleed the least. I wasn't sweating bullets when it came to cutting out the other half of my tiles. I mean, what's the point of worrying you're going to cut it wrong when they're already printed wrong? Heh hee. I also cut out all the Paper LinX notches and after a few failed attempts and disasters I think I've figured out how to make the cuts pretty clean.

All-in-all, even though I'm a bit disappointed, I had some fun and learned a lot! So it wasn't a total waste.

So here's a picture of what I've got so far. It isn't much, hee hee, just 6 tiles (only four of which are actually visible in the picture, note how they don't line up properly.)

Hopefully I'll get some zombie miniatures pretty soon! I'm chompin' at the bit to play a zombie game with these cardstock models!

The paint job on the minis are sweet. Your road tiles are well done with LinX and all, as for the printer.... bummer.

Yes, I think I'm going to have to look for a new printer.

Thats an odd problem with the printer. When my tiles didn't line up I always assumed that I had made a cutting error. But I have some Castlework Ultimate courtyards that lined up abit crooked just like that. Perhaps I should go back an measure a fresh print.

But I do second that comment about the figures. Thats a beautiful paint job.

Try running the "print head alignment" utility if your printer has that option.

I had the same problem with my old printer, but that died so luckily I got a new one witch works with my linux.

Well, I know diddly squat about computers and printers (but give me an aircraft or industrial machine and Bob's your Uncle!! LOL)......... so I can't really comment about the printer issue, but I just wanted to add a comment here to say that your figures are totally SWEEEEET!!!

Get some terrain finished and then when you post pics here, make sure to include plenty more of your figures as well!!

Actually I consider "refurb" to be fairly close to a swear word.
And 18 months is a long time to have the same printer. As a card modeller you won't get that mileage out of an Epson, as many of those have waste counter ICs that count up what should be the life of the waste ink absorbers and can only be reset with the correct jigs and software which we can't get. Others can simply have the pads replaced.
Then again it's easy for me to say, I usually print everything at work on electrostatic equipment. The only ink printer we've had in stock is a massive poster printer from Canon. And that was a used item.
We had Lexmark but, don't go there. We only stock their electrostatic printers now, which is bad enough. At least the price is a little better than the usual KM hardware we stock.

At any rate, you should take your printer to a service centre with a sample. if it doesn't print square there is something wrong.

I'm finding my Canon to be surprisingly good. No problems so far and it has printed out approximately 1000 pages of cardstock already.

Can't go wrong with taking yours to the experts as chironex suggests

I hardly consider 18 months to be old for a home printer.

We are still cranking on an HP 1120c (11x17 format) here at the office which was built in Jan 1999 and it works perfectly well. It does get alot of use and always has and has been discontinued some tiem back.
We also have an old HP Laserjet 4 we have been having since around '96 maybe even longer. It still cranks out pure blacks and is really the workhorse of the office.

My HP 3520 has been used and abused for about three years now, and aside from that 1/8" compression thing, it is still running fine. I figure I have probably run about 40 sets of cartridges through it, which was very expensive before I learned about buying them refilled.

I used to have a HP Officejet, which was made in 1999. It was still a great printer, but we didn't need it in addition to the newer Canon we picked up. We tried to donate it to Goodwill because it was still a very good printer and fully working... but they turned their noses up at it. Apparently people would rather be without a printer than except a model more than a couple of years old.

We ended up having to pay Staples to take it and destroy it

I am still having very good luck with my Canon Pixma MP500. My only complaint is one that I have decided is more with my tastes than anything else - it is very big. But given that every major piece of hardware I have bought over the last two years I think that I must look for big hardware on some level.

Printer: Big.
Laptop: Big.
Keyboard: Big.
Monitor: Big. (This one was on purpose.)
Computer: Bloody honkin' 'uge!
