Hello everyone. I'm a longtime WWG fan and customer but this is my first post on the forums. I'm lookong for some opinions and advice on a Mayhem project that I am planning.
This will actually be the third Mayhem board that I have made but will be the first time I make one "properly". My first 2 boards had the tiles glued down on large partical board sheets in a permanent arrangement. This time I want to make a master board with modular tiles that can be rearranged for various set-ups.
I plan on using the gridless 7 x 7 tiles on foamcore with some buildings and things being based on larger multi-tile sections. I am going to build a table with a lip around the edge to hold the tiles in place during game play.
Ok...sounds good, right? Now for my concerns. First I discovered that I have an "inaccurate" printer. It prints the tiles 7" wide but about 6 15/16" long. How do people deal with this problem? Buying a new printer is not really an option for me right now.
Also I'm a little worried about warping on the larger sections. I think the 7" x 7" tiles will stay pretty flat, but I'm concerned about say a 14" x 28" section warping since its larger. Any advice on this? Am I worrying too much about a non-issue?

Some ideas:

1) I'm not sure how best to advise you on the printer glitch that results in the 6 15/16" problem. You might consider either attempting to trim a narrow, equivalent strip off the "wide" side, or to use edging along the sides of the short side, to bring it to square.

2) I had a very large (32" x 40") sheet of foamcore warp on me at one point...now mind you, this is a sheet with nothing "built" and permanently mounted on it. I fixed the warpage by rubbing the back side of the foamcore with a damp (not sopping wet) paper towel, and then weighting the whole thing down overnight.

Other than that, I don't know how best to prevent warpage from occuring in the first place. You might consider gluing your flat tiles on, letting it dry overnight, and then correcting any warp that occurs before you "build up" on the tile.

3) I've been discussing an alternative way to build a modular city layout in another thread in this forum, here: http://www.worldworksgames.com/forum/vi ... php?t=5068 It's a totally different approach from what you're doing, and would need to be adapted slightly for 7" tiles (it's written with CliX and 7.5" tiles in mind), but it might at least give you some ideas and inspiration.

Thanks. Actually I have read through that thread and I plan to adapt some of your ideas to what I am doing. I'm still considering going with the pink foam as a base instead of foamcore. That would relieve some of my warpage concerns but the pink foam doesn't seem well suited for small 7" x 7" tiles. But that is not really a huge problem.
