But, not knowing the game at all, can those 2 groups be run together?

Dont know that system very well, but you can always go with the J.T. Wentworth approach that I see in many rules introductions: "It's your game, use it the way you need to." If they can play tournaments in Flames of War with allies fighting each other, desert troops against winter, etc., then why not. Or, if you like the figures but want the freedom of using them in a game, look at some of the independent rules sets that arent tied down to a particular set of minis. There are at least 3 sets of rules that I know of that pretty much allow whatever army or alliance you have to be used. The hard part is finding an opponent.

Well, depending on where you buy it the Cryx battle set runs between $35 US (Dungeon Trader) and $45 (list). the Risen go from about $26 (Dungeon Trader) and $35 (list).

However - Alexia and her undead companions will not work for Cryx! She may be crazy as snake pajamas, but she isn't evil.

As an aside - the Cryx starter set is one of the better ones - a good solid Warcaster that fits well with the jacks in the set, and some of the death chickens have a nasty ranged attack that lingers on your Jack for a while.

The only starter set that may be better is Khador. The Khador set has two really decent heavy warjacks, and one scary lady of a Warcaster. Not as scary as she was when the game first came out (she used to be game wreckingly broken), but still a great warcaster.

Instead of Alexia you may want to consider Bane Thralls. Speaking as a ranged Cygnar player the danged unshootable Bane Thralls are an enormous pain in the butt! One of the other Warcaster for Cryx - Goreshade the Bastard can summon a unit of Bane Thralls - a unit that costs more points than he does....

The Cygnar starter is probably the worst of the lot - the Charger is not exactly a 'must have' warjack.

For my own armies I have Cygnar (Commander Nemo!) and the pirates. For loaners I have a small sampling of the rest.

A free army builder program is available - a pretty good program that sees regular updates.

That is the most awesome cygnar mod I've seen! Oh how I wish my highlighting skills were such that I could tackle lighting like that. And the smoke billows are so much better than what you can get from hardening foam.

I ordered these guys yesterday:

Lich Lord Terminous is awsome in all ways. I just finished painting mine.

He needs a huge amount of pinning. The wings are large and heavy, and half of the spikes sticking out of his wings are 'parts' also needing pins. Even with all that work, he was well worth it.

In game terms, he's a war caster that gives all undead (this helps in an undead army) in your army 'toughness' so 1/3 off your units would survive being killed. His feat is to gather focus for every living thing killed in one turn. I hear the record is like 33 focus, which as you may have guessed means a lot of dishing back on the opponent the next turn. The latest PP magazine recommends surrounding Terminous with an army of Cryx living models. Go ahead... kills his troops, you're just powering him up for the next turn.

Hell, he may kill his own troops just for kicks.

Terminus is indeed all kinds of awesome.

If and when I put the model together I have plans for having him kneel on a shallow stairway paved with skulls. (See image below - the base is by .) What he is kneeling before is offscreen, but really, there is only one before whom he would bow.....
