Ok to start off with - welcome to the forum and the hobby. If you stick around for a while you will notice that we are a friendly bunch.... just a tad weird, as we do worship the God of Score, Cut, Edge, Glue & Repeat!

To start off with you need a good colour printer: Now I know you know that but let me just quickly point out that it needs to have seperate ink bay rather than an all-in-one cartridge. Again for you stick with this hobby you might want to research the third-party ink refills. Either by the cartridge or by self refilling. If you need help please ask

Glue:
I have been using for years the UHU Pen - this is exactly the same glue as what Denny suggests but in a 50g tube that is slightly larger at the head. This is great stuff you just have to be careful with the flow. This is cheap as chips and can be found in the chain of OfficeWorks.


The other glue that I have been using is a Japanese glue call ZIG 2 WAY GLUE PEN CHISEL TIP - 10grms. Now this is an expensive glue but doesn't wrinkle and glues quite quickly and strength.



I get my cardstock also from OfficeWorks - its a 200gsm 250sheets to the ream for about $19.95. This product is labled for inkjet and lazerjet so what ever you have should be good.



Also pop into the local art supply and get yourself either a Bone Folder &/or a scoring tool. Not only with these help with burnishing but will make very nice compressions scoring - compression scoring is stronger than using a blade to score.

Thank you Lord Abbadon, I will make those purchases. But I did look at the UHU pen & thought it was too watery looking. Denny's description seemed to indicate that it was a low water glue which seems discontinued now, but on your advise I will give it a go.

I just started building my first models today and so last week I hit my local Officeworks for some of the items mentioned by Lord_Abbadon.

After building my Tower of Chaos today I have to recommend the Bostik Glu Tack which looks strikingly similar to the ZIG product that Lord_Abbadon mentioned.



Out of the different products I tried today this one gave me the best results the only problem I'm having with it is the application tip is not very reliable (in terms of flow) but after a while I got used to it. It is also a little on the expensive side at 5 bucks a tube.

So to anyone in Australia looking to get in this great hobby, take a trip down to your local officeworks and grab some Bostik Glu Tack you won't be disappointed

I've started using glue sticks (the dry school stationary type) for sandwich fold walls. Because the glue is not liquid there is no warping at all and it is designed to glue paper. Not to mention they are super cheap and available everywhere! For tabs I use the same Uhu stick that Lord_Ab posted above.

I've been using the "Bostik Blu Stik" brand.

I got one of those bone folders, thanks for the tip. I haven't had any more pieces tearing at the fold.

Ok I haven't been able to get a bone folder locally but I just got one on ebay for $6.15 delivered. It's made of acrylic not bone though.

I got some black foamcore from the local art shop for $25 for 1000x800mm, seemed like an ok price until i found this site: since i am only starting I am happy with my purchase.

I found some glue tape (like the liquid paper tape) at officeworks so I am going to give that a try.

Is there anything i should know about using the bone folder to its maximum benefit?
