Here are the facts:
It's tagged as a WWGCrew production and it also carries the lable of Combat System.
Processing the Facts.
Fact: WWGCrew comprises of not only Denny, Paul, Aubrey bu tthe other model designers but also Mel Ebbles - the independant Model Crafter!
Fact: The WWGCrew also includes a games system designer background in computer games and tabletop.
Fact: Mel Ebbles forum hinted that fleet scale models "might" be in the works but in true Mel style the facts are handed out on a "Need to Know Bases"
Fact: Denny and Paul are some of the greatest texturers in the business (well they are the greatest textures in this business and cardstocking as a whole). So Fleet scale ship to ship combat will look sweet!
Fact: WWG goes to places that no gaming company has gone before.
Result of Facts: This is going good.... damn good. So good in fact that you can feel that inner child wanting it so bad you start to think that the kid is jonesing!

LoL
Just running the facts as they present themselves.
Like you tag in the sig line. Project: Wormhole sounds more Spacy then Codename: . Codename gives a more grunt feel to it (groundplodders)
And just to look at the facts again Stev's sig line confirms the space game part! Just not what scale nor whom is working on it! We will get to the bottom of this!

My guess is a space combat game with cardstock ship models. You can sell the model with a data sheet for the game. Its been done with some success in the industry already, but WWG models in the mix make it all the more interesting.

Yeah, I imagine something along the lines of Pirates of the Spanish Main, except obviously in space. Sounds like a pretty awesome concept, although I have to say that Hostile Takeover sounded really cool, so I hope this isn't replacing it...

HT is still in the production pipe but we aren't going to be talking about that until it's closer to launch. That's our new policy.

Can you quantify "closer to launch" as a % of completion? 80%? 90%, 95%... 99.9999999999991%?

CCotD ... I can quantify it for you and save Denny some time.
The WIP has room for four items. Period. Only after the top item goes gold and thus frees up a slot will something new be added. There isn't a hard and fast rule as to the percentage required to make it to the WIP but if they have 15 things in the works, then by the time something goes gold to free up a spot, my guess is the next highest item must be well along the path.
Notice that right now the lowest item is considered 40%.
However, that doesn't mean there isn't something else 80% done. Denny said items will be on the WIP when they feel their destiny is under control. So there could be some kit in the works that hit 80% and then the author had to serve a tour in Iraq os something, so it's on hold. It's well on it's way to completion, but on hold.
So something that has no apparent roadblocks, but only at 40% might make it on the WIP because the point of the WIP is to be able to notch each item up a bit on a regular basis, while something at 80% but on hold for some reason (perhaps they are negotiating with some other company to produce minis or special dice, and talks have only just begun so there's no telling how long it will be) remains hidden.
I'm quite happy with that. Heck, two items ont he WIP right now are for Mayhem, and they are quite a way down the road to completion, so I'm stoked!

You will be happily blasting away your time with Wormhole while we toil away on Hostile Takeover.
As wormhole's development cycle is much shorter than HT's, Wormhole replaced HT on the WIP meter. As SeattleGamer said, the WIP meter is to give an indication of the products which are quickly approaching on radar. Think of Wormhole as an incoming cruise missile, while Hostile Takeover is the invasion force off the coast. You'll need to deal with the cruise missile first, but the invasion force keeps blipping closer and closer...
We're all very excited about Wormhole behind the scenes. We collectively saw an opportunity to give you guys a game you'll really enjoy, so everyone's pitching in to make it a reality. The designer of Wormhole is listed as "WWG Crew" because it's a collective effort. We can't wait to blow you guys away!
WorldWorksGames' very first game can be best described as Simple, Hot, and Deep. Project Wormhole: You'll be sucked in! [/cheese]

Hey, any space stuff is just more stuff for me to work on in my long, late hours at work. If it's along the miniatures space fleet battle type stuff, I'm all for it. I've been jonesing for something ... Nexus, the Jupiter Incident-ish for some time now.

Man ... I'm not even much of a spaceship gamer (only one that ever interested me was Battlefleet Gothic), but that is one cool looking ship. I will be watching this thread with much greater interest now.

This was leaked at last nights WorldWorks Wednesday chat so I thought the rest of you might like a peek. And we can't even show you the best part yet We'll be releasing more info closer to launch.
Right now our rules although relatively solid are still in Beta and the fleet design is undergoing a few changes. It's pretty damn exciting stuff though and we can't wait to share with everyone!

Good old Denny, once he starts his sneak peaks, he can't stop (and we love him for it)
Like someone said above, this may well tempt me into sci-fi land (damn you WWG Crew, I have soooo much fantasy stuff to build )

Ok you tease us with a ship, cool but can you make funky space explosions? Now thats the question.
Nothing like seeing the floating hulks in space with plumes of plasma venting off into the Void.

A request from an average modeller is can you please keep at least some of the ships simple to build so that we don't have to spend 3 months building enough models to actually play a game.
Keep up the good work.

Interesting you should say that. One of the big developmental discussions is focused on that very issue right now. One of my big concerns was keeping things simple enough to allow users to get things up and running as fast as possible. Realistically you should be able to bang out a fleet in a single sitting (2-3 hours or so of work). Finding a balance that allows for a quick build that still looks great is a bit of a challenge but I think we are close.

If they can do battle damage with the Maiden using transparencies i think a plumming jet of plasma should not be that much more difficult than either the hole in ship (like the cannon ball hole) or fire like from Mayhem....
My question is scale, how big is that ship we saw earlier...
