The claritry of the builds using foamcore is really enforced with these shots. You painted minis look wonderful alone but mixed into the set - fantastic!

How long does it take you to do a board this size?

I found the pictures quite inspiring. I was expecting to see some Dark Age Forsaken, so the horror genre was a surprise, but I read through your blog. I have been doing building exteriors/facades, but may switch to indoors now as well. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the kind words. I am glad you all like it. I have had a blast running these games. The nice thing about the Mayhem stuff is it works well for all types. So far I have had massive zombie outbreaks in the city to demons crossing portals into this world to werewolves and vampires battle it out in the streets.



I have no idea. I built most of this over a period of time. I would start a building and finish it. Then start another one a few months later. Plus I have added things over time. Originally the apartment building was completely open (like this). But now each level has different rooms and is furnished (like this). Since I have been running demo games for my rules I have been working more regularly on terrain.

I started converting Shellendrak Manor for foam core. I am planning on running some games at Spring Fling (a convention in Raleigh, NC May 16-18 ). I have roughly a 1.5 months to get it converted and built. So far the floor is done and I am working on the lower floor walls. I plan on posting some pictures of the progress soon.

I will use the names I gave them in the scenario so you can reference it with my blog.

The Order of Undying light is all Hassflefree miniatures except Father Connelly is from Cold War Miniatures.

All three werewolves are repaints of figures from various sets of Wizkids Horrorclix. Stephon, the vampire, also is a horrorclix repaint plus a weapon swap to give him a metal sword that is nicer looking.

Maeve is another Hasslefree figure. Alexis and Gregor are from Aberrant Games.

I'm very interested in seeing photos of this. Its something I'm really want to do.

I did some initial experiments with it myself. I thought the easiest way to do it was to have the foamcore walls wrap around the outer edges of the interior rooms. If done this way all that would have to be kitbashed is a corner post for the exterior corners. Much easier then trying to trim down the interior rooms.

However I haven't figured out how to do the bay windows with foamcore walls.

Yeah the bay windows are a challenge. I have it worked out with the files but I have not created the foam core pieces to see if it will work as planned. The first two walls I am working with have doors in them. The side and back door have a small window above them which presented another challenge in making the doors so they can be opened. All that is left is to glue the door frames in place and those two walls will be done. Then the next task will be the bay windows.

wow...great stuff

Audrey, you have said in other posts that you are working with a 9.5" x 9.5" base. It looks like from the photos that you stretched the street sections from 7" x 7" to that size since on the the sidewalk sections look larger and there are still 7 sections of sidewalk to each base section. My question is how are yo printing them out. My guess is you are not printing to 8.5" x 11" paper since I can't see any seam.

How did you come to choose 9.5" x 9.5"?

How well does the rubber mat work under the pieces to keep them in place?

Finally, were did you get the vehicles?

Yes, I just resized the file to 9.5" x 9.5". No photoshop work there. I did use 8.5" x 11" cardstock. I break each street tiles into two pieces. The main part is 7.5" x 9.5" and the smaller strip is 2" x 9.5". I try to hide the seam by breaking the two pieces right where the street meets the sidewalk. If you look closely at the photo below you can see the seam where the gutter is.





I printed out a bunch of different sizes and looked at how a diecast metal car fits the street and I wanted to have two 28mm figures be able to stand side by side on the sidewalk.



Pretty good. It keeps the tiles from moving most of the time. If someone really pushes they will move. But during convention games with 6 players moving stuff around, rolling dice on the board, etc I have had little if no movement. The rubber mat is the anti-slip stuff you can buy to go under rugs. I think I got mine at a home improvement store.



Eckerds (a drugstore) of all places. They had a bin full of diecast metal cars for something like $1.50 each. You can get diecast cars at most any toy store or online. The most common cars are 1/43 scale. That is a little big for 28mm but the sizes also vary from car to car. So some 1/43 scale cars are bigger than others. If you are using miniatures on slotted bases it adds height and the cars look close enough in size. 1/48 or even 1/50 are closer to the correct size but there is less selection and they tend to be pricer as that scale usually it geared towards collectors and not kids toys. I suggest taking a figure with you to a toy store or at least a piece of paper that has a 28mm height marked on it to use for reference when looking at which ones to get.
