I just ran the very beginning of "Keep on the Shadowfell" and decided that I'm not only going to build the two level dungeon but also the city. When I saw this, I just wanted to do a little jig. There is however one small thing, and it may even not be worth mentioning, but I want to make the houses and wall with foamboard. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I haven't started on the village yet, but will as soon as I'm done with the first level of the dungeon.

The houses are so small that I wouldn't bother doing them in foamcore, unless you're not going to do the interiors. And besides they are pretty sturdy as is.

Now several times I've considering doing the walls on foamcore. If I were building it from scratch I might do it that way. But I would probably make each village wall side a single piece, that way they would fit tightly together. of course doing this will require a lot of kitbashing, and it would limit their reusability. Of course they could be built normally and still be foamcored, it would just be time consuming.

It'll be cool to see some pics posted of your build there too. Additionally I posted a lot of winterhaven progress info there while I was building it. That might be useful for your winterhaven build.

My respect for this build has gone through the roof now that I've started it.

Holy hell, that's a lot of towers (about 100 pages worth if my count is correct).

LOL, theres a lot of everything. Wait until you start on a 2" thick stack of crenelations, and I already had lots of villageworks and CWU stuff built.

But the props take the most time and certainly seem feel the longest. I don't know how many I used, but I bet I've got like 500 pages of props built among all the stuff I've done.

I really recommend switching what your building periodically. They say a change is as good as a rest. And its very boring doing a dozen of the same thing followed by 2 dozen of the next thing.

I do have the store house and hovel bashes ready to go. I'm making a bundle of the random bits like the roofs, stairs, and corner braces rather than making each a separate one, but there is a couple things left to do for that one yet.

Of course I've already sent in 2 other bashes, and who knows how many other people have sent stuff too. So its not likely they'd be released real soon anyway.

Yes, I'm cycling through components. I'm doing the towers in pairs, one of each type of crenelation.

It should be interesting when I attack the town with kobolds + undead while the PCs are staying there...

Definitely post some pics of it with the figures. I still wished I'd been able to afford the himmelveil standees to finish it off while I had it up. Oh, well maybe I'll set it back up when I do have them.

Question -- What/where is the two-level gatehouse versus one-level gatehouse? Are they both just CWU gatehouses, one with a wall section added to the top?

So far I've got three tower bases complete, the secure storehouse kitbash, and have printed/cut out/scored all 18 wall sections, plus started on the grand stable kitbash.

Yes the 2 layer gatehouse is the one that looks like its got a wall on top. But its not a wall its the assembly to raise the portcullis.

And the hovel has been submitted. I'll finish up the docs for the village bits bash so it'll be ready for submitting very soon.

Sorry, I'm even more confused now. In my CWU, there's only one gatehouse PDF (Buildings -> Gatehouse -> Gatehouse.pdf). I guess I still don't understand what the difference is in the two gates in terms of what gets printed and built.

Its all the same pdf. But if you do the 2 level gatehouse you use all the pages. For the 1 level you don't use pages 7-9 and 11.

About a year later, WOW! Thanks for the inspiration.

I must say that VW and CW are probably a couple months off for me...but eventually, I will buy them. Like I said before, I want to make a decent Manor and then grab Noctis/Requiem to do an elaborate tower. Mind you, this may all get put on hold if Thoumont's TLX gets released before I am done Shelendrak.
