The planet is not shown in the picture, the game board features a portion of the Sathrican homeworld, the spaceships are there to ddefend it from Galactus.

I was thinking maybe a timed "how long can you hold him off?" or an "escape through the wormhole" kind of scenario.

I would combine the two ideas. Start with defending being the hope and then fleeing being the reality.

Talae's suggestion would make a good tournament style scenario--something good to run at a convention to introduce the game to new players. Each part could have it's own set a victory points. Then at the end of the second game, total the points. Then each player (who would be the defender) could compare how well they did.
