I've had the game All Things Zombie for a while, but was working with other game systems (primarily Mutants and Death Ray Guns) for a few weeks now. I did, however, have a few hours to kill the other day and put together a very small layout and gave ATZ a whirl.

I made several mistakes, but had a good time. I didn't think to start taking photos until I was done, so what I have is the last round--it only lasted three!

The humans ran into this building to get away from the horde that had spotted them. Unfortunatly, they found three zeds inside. After the inital contact, one zed was dead, but so was the leader. The next round, the zombies won the initiative and began feasting on the leader. (I forgot that the Star character could have used the Cheating Death rule, but that's okay). The other two survivors failed terribly their See the Feast reaction test and went into fetal positions, screaming. Simply put, game over.

I had fun with it, tho I still have a bit to learn before I can run a smooth game. I especially like the campaign system they have developed and the fact that it can be played co-op instead of only competitively.

The terrain is, of course!, WWG. The minis are Darkmooks from One Monk's site.

The setup looks great. Adam's minis are fantastic and there a more coming - I am so glad I pushed him into production.

ATZ is All Things Zombie by Two Hour Wargames. http://www.angelfire.com/az3/twohourwar ... orror.html It is currently in its second edition (All Things Zombie- Better Dead Then Zed) and also currently has one expansion out for the 2nd Edition with another on the way. Ed over at THW had delayed The Lazarus Project expansion in order to get some of the other games he had in the pipe works out, hopefully the Lazarus Project will be released here soon.

ATZ is a single or a multiplayer game, in it everyone plays as a Human or team of Humans, with one of your characters being a Star (think the main character in a Zombie Movie) with the others in the group being Grunts (these are the supporting characters the Main needs to help him survive). All characters will have whats called a Rep, higher the rep the better the chances of activating on a turn and passing various tests, and they can also have a special attribute (or two or 3 depending on what they started out at for their rep and if they have gained rep) which allows them to gain certain advantages (or in some cases disadvantages) usually in the form of additional dice that they can roll for a specific action or test.

Zombies have a fixed rep, and their actions are dictated by the rules, so no player is controlling the Zombies. One such rule is that more Zombies may be spawned from gun fire, vehicles starting up and moving, or other loud noises. Zombies are also limited to melee combat only using only their hands and teeth, where Humans can got unarmed into combat, or armed with melee weapons or ranged weapons.

A game can last for as short as 10 minutes up to hours depending on how well the players is rolling. You can also run a series of games over time as a campaign, losing characters and recruiting new ones. The current expansion Haven is mostly a scenario book, though it does introduce some new rules, weapons, and vehicles. Haven also includes a small town of survivors that the player(s) can use as a base of operations and for recruiting.

Now onto a brief of the game play, wont go into combat just activations. Every turn you roll two 6-sided dice (preferably of different colors, one for you and one for the zombies) to determine which side, if any, activates (gets to preform actions). If you have a group of two Rep 5 characters (Your Star and say one other Rep 5) and you roll a 1-5 then your group can activate, now as mentioned before Zombies have a fixed rep (Rep 4) and can only activate on a roll of 1-4. Now say you have 3 characters on your side a Rep 5, a Rep 4 and a Rep 2 and you roll a 3, only your Rep 4 and Rep 5 characters may activate, unless your Rep 2 is grouped with either the Rep 4 or the rep 5 character, groups are within 4 inches of each other and have clear line of sight of each other.

Wont really go into any more, easiest way to learn the rules is get the rules and play it or play with someone who has a copy of the rules. You could also try out Chain Reaction 3.0 which is what ATZ-Better Dead Then Zed uses as a core for its rules (ATZ has additional rules not found in Chain Reaction) http://www.angelfire.com/az3/twohourwargames/CR3.0.htm

2GunMojo, I tried out my first two games of ATZ:BDTZ last week and I'll be posting battle reports about them on my blog-site real soon. I have to say that the new rules are a vast improvement over the original ATZ rules and everything is explained a lot clearer.

You were desperately unlucky in your first game with two the group failing their See The Feast rolls and your leader losing his first combat.

On the plus side, your scenery is excellent. What a great gaming board. I like the neat touch of the missing front wheel from your green van. I hope you'll post more pictures of any future game you play. I'm a sucker for any zombie apocalypse gaming.

Yes, after I get time to try a few more games, I'll post pics. I'll even try to take more and better pics. I think I will go for a larger layout. I've considered going 15mm just so I can get more city for my space. I just don't know if I want to rebuld everything--minis and terrain both, tho I have found a good line of 15mm zombies/humans . . .
