Since someone else is also doing this, I thought I'd make a topic about it, and maybe we can share notes. I've converted a large chunk of Gothic Realms to TLinx (my now-not-so-super-project). I'll try to put up pics tonight. I know at least one other person (Lotus) is working on GR.

So far, I've converted the following:

* Posts (2 way, 3 way, 4 way) - using the gray brick pattern
* 3" wall - plain (gray brick)
* 3" wall - Lit (skulls and torches wall)
* 3" wall - Unlit (skulls and torches wall)
* 3" wall - Entry arch
* 3" wall - All doors
* 6" wall - plain (gray brick)
* 6" wall - Lit (skulls and torches wall)
* 6" wall - Unlit (skulls and torches wall)
* 6" wall - Great Door (2x height)
* 6" wall - Cathedral Wall (2x height, skulls and torches wall, unlit)

Also, I snagged the old logo and it's gone at the top of all the files in the usual (for TLinx) spot.

So far, everything but the Great Door and Cathedral Wall should work with existing GSD files. (I don't have a cutter, so I can't verify.) The Great Door and Cathedral wall are slightly taller than LHDK's Great Door, so they can't use that.

Here's what I currently have on my to-do list:

* 3x6 Tile - Marble (1" version)
* 6x6 Tile - Marble (1" version)

* Anchors - Marble (black and white)

My thoughts on floors. Frankly, the floor textures of the later sets are far superior to the older sets, and GR is no exception. I've made builds with LHDK floors and Sewers floors, and they look great. IMO, the only floor worth converting is the Black/White marble floor. And because it's naturally tiled, I think only 1" and 1.5" versions are needed (the "gridless" could use either).


Are there other good TLinx'able elements? The cryptwalls, somehow?


Also, if we put together a good version of this (the elements I've assembled are all 300 DPI, extremely clean and consistent), would WWG want to release it?

This is something I would be interested in having played with the 'wobbliness' of Gothic Realms for a while.

I hadn't done very much, nor was attempting a complete conversion. You have done far more than I had done.

I essentially agree that the floors are not up to snuff anymore, though it wouldn't be hard to do them either, and it would be more complete. The pool tile I am not sure about though. I am wondering if there is any way, or need to convert the sewer tiles. I dunno, I know they want completed entries for review, but on the other hand there is little to do. I think you'd best wait and see what the the pros say about the rest.

Did you adjust the chamber ceiling wall section to be 6"?

You're right about the floors - the (nearly) chessboard tile is the only one I've used as well.

It would be good if the sewers could be TerrainLinX'ed in some way, so that they: a) fit with TerainLinX supports, and b) tie together securely.
Possible suggestions:

• Creating copies of the sewers with notched corners that can fit around TerrainLinX posts
• Creating TerrainLinX posts that are the same height as the sides of the sewers, and adding interlocking slots to the sides of the sewer pieces.

The Crypt Wall could be TLX'ed by adding TLX slots to the corners. May want to provide multiple version of this for flexibility: 1) slots at the front only; 2) slots at the back only; 3) slots on all corners.

The Axe and Spinner traps could be modified to slot directly into TLX posts by removing their end pieces and adding TLX slots. This might also want a version that's TLX'ed at one end only.

And yes, slanted walls, please.

Zenguy, I think the traps are best not TLX. This way they can be placed anywhere.

I agree traps should be able to go anywhere we want them. I'd assumed (but didn't say - my bad ) that the non-TLX version would still be included in the set. That way there would traps for use in any position (beside TLX posts or on the clear parts of corridors).

Thinking about this a bit more, I've realised I've been thinking the old pre-TLX way - Du'oh!

The obvious (and true TLX) solution:
1. Make the traps like a normal TLX wall piece (i.e. flat with TLX slots at the end),
2. Provide separate end pieces (based on the current trap ends) with TLX support slots (as per the slots on the TLX posts) to support the traps when not used with a TLX post.
Complete flexibility (the traps can be used wherever we want) with minimal extra build.

Good call, just texture down the entire length of the support post, that way it doesn't look out of place when not being used as a standalone.

Awesome. I appreciate the input. I'll take a look at the traps. I hadn't even thought about Tlinx'ing those. Some would be good as wall elements. (And I wouldn't assume non-Tlinx props are going in. Completely unofficially, I think Denny has plans for prop packs, so unless they're not Tlinx elements, I wouldn't expect them in this set. JMO.)

I decided yesterday (while I was deathly ill) to add in posts with the diagonal cut, and to add in some misc sized walls, like LHDK has. And depending on when the LHDK booster comes out, I might add a curved wall, too. I also nixed the "plain" (just bricks, no skulls or scones) 6" wall from the manifest.

Oh, and the Crypt is definitely getting added as a "chunky" 6" wall piece. It's a tad more complicated than just adding the Tlinx wings (sizing and stuff), but should be doable. I might make a second version, empty alcoves without the skellies, if I can edit them out. And the grid on top comes off. Might be replaced by the dark gray brick pattern, like I have the top of the wedged walls.

As for the sewers, even though they were one of my favorite parts of GR originally, I may not do them for TLinx. The biggest reason is that a TLinx sewers set already exists (and it rocks!) and I wouldn't want to step on it's toes. At some point it might be fun to make a GR/Sewers crossover.

I'm also thinking about adding two new elements - stairs (should be easy) and a railing (maybe not so easy) - just to take advantage of the multi-level element of Tlinx. Would that addition be worth the subtraction of sewers?

Thoroughly agree on both points. Stairs, ramps and railings would be awesome.

Got some good work done last night on the chunky Cryptwall. My first design didn't work out though, so I'm reformatting how they fit onto a page. Looks like 3 pages to make 2 Cryptwalls. One page with 2x front pieces (the piece with the cutout crypts and the Tlinx wings), and one page with a single back piece (the chunky part). I'm encouraged by the new design - makes it easier to assemble (less loose pieces).

Hey! I resemble that remark! (A New Year's resolution that has not yet born fruit - but then I ain't built much this year, at least so far, so nothing to photograph... but the camera is out of storage now, at the least.)

I would not mind seeing the 3D elements of the GR sewers converted - I got a lot of use out of those sewers, and even used them in a quick and dirty subway kitbash (the track from SoM, flanked by the raised walkway from GR sewers, walls from IW: C&K). Plus the aqueduct kitbash still looks darned good, and would work great in conjunction with Streets.

TAG - I'm pretty sure I'm not going to tackle the sewers, at least for an initial GR conversion.


I built two of the cryptwalls (one with a lit back, one unlit), and they look good. Construction is pretty simple, and they fit perfectly into the posts.

I also converted the spinner trap, and I'm going to convert the axe trap as well. Then I'm onto the floors. I should have pics of all this sometime this weekend, and I'll try to update the manifest of what's done.

Last, I have to decide on stairs and railing. I think I'll start and see how complicated its going to be.

I think this will be lead to other problems, but in on of the adventurers was a stair that was textured like the gothik dungeon set.

Well, I didn't get very far over the weekend, being sick and all, although I did get 6x6 versions of the marble floor done. No pics, either.

But seriously, is this something that might get released, or are you just doing it for your own personal edification??? I'm asking because I was thinking of possibly doing the same thing, and I was wondering if it was worth the effort.

I had a quick chat with Denny about it, and I think there is a very real possibility this sees the light of day for others. I've been engineering it that way - standard sizes, pixel-perfect, GSD complaint, etc - its much more complete and precise than I would make it for personal use only.

Not many (most of them sucked, to be honest - but my wife currently has the good camera for her food porn, uh, food blogging), but .... GR Pics!





This was a quick put-it-together-and-take-a-picture-or-two build. No real thought to it, except I wanted the big cathedral style room. The floors (as you may have guessed already) are from HV Sewers and LHDK. I finished the digital file of anchors tonight, so I should be able to get some marble floors done soon.

The traps work really well (I'm looking forward to doing these with the black cut out), and the two versions of crypt walls are very effective.

Sorry guys for the silence here (especially to you Robby). There's been some fairly major things happening behind the scenes which have absolutley destroyed any sense of free time. I'm dying to share...soon!!!

Officially; I am 100% onboard for a release of this into the catalog in the TLX format. Robby did a great job from the ground up. I haven't had time to nail down the details yet but I will endevor to do so next week. Hopefully we can get this turned around quickly so that everyone can play. The only thing is that we'll have to structure a different pricepoint here because Robby did not convert the sewer portion of the set and he's ommiting the old stone floors (though given the quality of those old textures I fully agree with the ommision).

Great job by the way Robby. Its satisfying to see such an old offering come alive in the new format, in ways previously impossible. I especially love the way the traps and doors turned out. It goes without saying but Gothic Realms suddenly has a lot more utility. I can't wait to officially release it!
