In September/October, I ran an adventure for my DnD group... level 9 and Level 10 which, but for a couple encounters, were all contained in one build... the Dwarven Quarter of Fallcrest (I took many liberties with Fallcrest in building this). I built this in my garage starting in August. I moved it to the kitchen table in September, where it remained until these pictures were taken in mid-October.

I didn't have a lot of time to do much in the way of edging (I only picked up my automatic cutter in August, when I was down to the tower... thus the vast majority of this was by hand)... so it's not the prettiest build, but it's my biggest to date, so I thought I'd share.

My original plan was to have a sewer level, a couple street levels, then a Wizard's Tower on a hill overlooking everything. The entire thing ended up being 10 levels from the bottom of the sewer to the top of the tower.

Starting with the Sewer...





The lower middle portion with the small nooks was intended as a prison. There aren't any cell door type walls, so I used the curtain standees (most were removed when this picture was taken).

Beneath the buildings in the top of the picture was a 2 level portion of sewer that I had occupied by were rats.





On the left side of the sewer, I put in a Dwarven catacombs...





At the bottom right of the last shot is a sewer doorway which led off the map. This would be the couple of encounters I couldn't fit in this build.

Sitting on top of the sewer was the street level...







My favorite of the street level buildings were the tavern and the tower.

The Tavern...









The last shot shows the trap door removed from in front of the bar. When I pulled it in game, there were two PCs standing on it (I let the players position their minis, and they apparently didn't notice the difference in the floor). When the trap door was pulled out, the minis fell into the prison below.



Then there's the Wizard's Tower...



The first four levels were basically a staircase going up to the top.



The next two levels consisted of the Wizard's living area.



The door in the center matches up with the top of the stairs from the 4th floor of staircases.

The platform with the single staircase leads up to the very top of the Wizard's tower.

HOLY CRAP! This is incredible!

although I see you aren't quite as anal as I about having everything be perfectly lined up an square. I do really like the creative use of TLX walls to make oblong and diagonal rooms though!

Jesus this is an amazing build though. You really show off just how amazing all of the sets can be when they're used creatively in conjunction!

Absolutely incredible build! Edging would have helped somewhat but what it lacks in detail it makes up for in scale. Nicely done!

Using Lost Halls for a Wizards tower was genus!!!

This is a sizable amount of the build, but I doubt it is everything. I would love if you could give a count of tiles/walls/posts/etc...even if it was a rough count.

wow... didn't expect such praise. I wish I'd had the time to edge everything... and I wish I had taken more pictures during the game.

Let me try and answer the questions...

How long did it take me to make the pieces? That's impossible to say. I purchased the Streets and Sewer sets right after they became available, and I started making various pieces then (not with this in mind, just playing with the system). In early summer, my group figured out when we would return to my game. It was about that time I went back to seriously planning and building pieces. I built pretty much every day for a couple months (an hour or two in the morning, an hour or two at night).

How long did assembly take? I started building it in August... 1 level at a time. I designed it in the layout program... then built it, changed my mind, redid things, made more pieces to tweak it here and there, etc. for a couple weeks. With the sewer, the hard part was the prison cell area. The short walls (1 inch and 2 inch) couldn't fit together to make a 6 inch wall... resulting in a bowed wall. The street level took less time. I had built the Tavern much earlier (the trapdoor was a major concern for me).

The Tower took another couple weeks. Fortunately with that, I had my robo to do the work. I really wasn't sure how best to do the Tower. I wanted this spiral staircase up... and making that turned out to be very difficult. Then getting to the top, I was concerned that the wider top wouldn't be properly supported by the bottom... so I had to devise supports. I'm not sure that the supports actually did anything other than give me peace of mind... but oh well. The entire assembly was done as I made pieces and figured out what was working, what wasn't working, and what I wanted to do next.

How many pieces total? The photo that Talae found shows everything but the Tower. I had another photo of the Tower's parts.

6" Tiles: ~15 (Sewer level), ~18 (Street level), ~4 (Tower)
Hallways: ~9 (Sewer Level), ~15 (Street Level), ~8 (Tower)
3" Tiles: ~ 16 (Sewer Level) ~10 (Street Level), ~3 (Tower)
Posts: ~ 80 (Sewer Level), ~60 (Street Level), ~20 (Tower)
Walls: ~ 40 (Sewer Level) (complete guess), ~30, ~30 (Tower)

Total: ~100 Tiles, ~160 Posts, ~100 Walls = ~360 pieces (not including railings, balconies, roofs, stairs, and misc. props).

I really didn't take the time to count (wife wanted the kitchen table back)

Thanks a ton for the break-down. It is a ton of stuff, but seems very possible. I have a decent chunk of that built already (although only the Streets set so far).

It would be super if, before someone embarks on a build of this size again, they PM me the brand of cardstock, foamcore and glue you intend to use. I would like to invest in the companies before you go buying your materials! I can use the proceeds to invest in my own cardstock, foamcore and glue!

Jindy - how'd you handle *playing* through something that big? Were you able to make the layers come off easy enough to reveal portions of the sewers? What about the tower - was it hard to interact with the different levels?

I am not him, but I have "chunked out" portions of each layer in my builds to be 3 tiles x 3 tiles (and sometimes 4 tiles by 4 tiles). I also chunk out any logical locations (the Streets around the Inn don't need to be connected...and probably shouldn't, etc.). This has proven to work just fine for my builds, but they have never been of this magnitude.

I took the Tower off almost immediately so that I could see the folks on that side of the table (and they could see the street).

The roofs of the buildings came off for the encounters in them. The encounter in the Tavern started that way, then when I had characters fall into the sewer, I took the Tavern, put it on the street, and took the upper level of the Tavern off, put that next to it (also on the street)... and that gave everyone a good view of all three levels of combat.

In exploring the sewer, I took off street sections in chunks based upon how I intended the underground encounters.

When we got to the Tower, the stairways were funky... I took a wall off to allow a side view of two levels at a time.

I have started my Nar Shaddaa take 3 build all ready.

I am STILL trying to figure out how I want to do the BIG (yeah I think this will be bigger than Nar Shaddaa...) build of a Sith/Massassi Temple...

Sorry everything but the Ink has been aquirred pretty much already for this week, you migth have a chance for the temple as i am still knocking that one around in my head I ahve ideas I just need to put them on graph paper to see what I like...


The PC's in my SW game went back to Nar Shaddaa this past Wednesday and well one of them Pulled an encounter on the streets... And since I had JUST bought NECROblock the day before I started printing off buildings last night for next weeks encounter to add to Nar Shaddaa.

I have 10 buildings I am going to start putting together when I get home...
and Low and behold I found I had something I liked better for the "drab gray backgrounds" i was looking for before (i used Mayhem construction but was never 100% happy with it), the walls from streets of legend. will work perfect that is tonights printing.
So I think this might get a much cooler look for what I want from Nar Shaddaa.
