So I didn't want to wait for Terraclips, and decided to go for TLX instead as I like the versatility of it and the already abounding resources (plus the wife said "where are you going to put this new board?..." which meant I had to find a nice stackable option...).

Shiny! I see you're doing 1ftx1ft tiles, which is fun. I'm doing a similar project for a friend of mine. Your layout is a good reminder that hallways are perfectly viable and useful in a megatile.

So here are the sticking of tiles finished:





I'm now working on magnetising those tiles. Basically putting 2 magnets per side.
It's quite basic (as everything I'm doing with this board!!):
I first measure 2" from the corner and mark with the blade:





Then I push the foam in with some twisers before putting a dry magnet to make the space in the right shape:




Then here's the funky bit: magnets have 2 sides, let's say + and -. The system I used was to glue a single magnet and wait a day for it to be really sealed in. I then use it as my reference magnet pole: I place the new magnet I intend to glue on it first and I mark it with a dot with my marker:




Then I put a drop of PVA in the hole:






The dot helps me if I drop the magnet or if I mess up with the glue when putting it in. Then it's like this: I always hold the tiles blank side towards me. If my template magnet was let's say on the left corner then if the new magnet is on the same corner on its tile (left) it means the magnet needs to keep the same orientation and therefore the dot needs to be showing, like this:





On the other hand if the new magnet goes into the opposite corner, it means I will have to flip it (the dot will be hidden).
I do 2 sides at a time and then leave it to dry overnight. When you let it dry, DONT STACK THE TILES!!! Otherwise you'll see all the magnets popping out of their hole to to gather like a tight community... very nice...

One thing about this magnet system is that they need to be really perpendicular from the tile surface and right at the end of the tile (I mean not too far pushed in the foam) otherwise they don't pull each other that well.



This is a rather long process, particularly as you have to wait a day for drying, so not finished with it yet.

In the meantime I'm getting ready with the anchors for columns... Back to the printer

Hello there!
So after experiencing the legendary "hand cramp" and snipping the tip of one finger (...) I finally finished the anchors for all the tiles!


I also finished magnetising the tiles. I thought it'd be a little stronger (I think it isn't mainly due to the poor alignment of my magnets...) but although weak it is enough to keep the stuff together, so fine!

I also built a test first level part which required a bit of printer readjusting as the cobble walls were coming out rather dark. So pushed my brightness to max, contrast super high, and they came out nicer (although the pic is rather dark now...):


Then one of the project I really wanted to have on this board is... gallows! I know WWG has one, but it looks really chunky and the other ones I found on the net just didn't seem to be good enough to fit with TLX stuff SO I decided to try and kitbash *oooohhhh* *aaaahhhhhh*
After spending some substantial time on Gimp first then Fireworks (since I couldn't solve an annoying auto-scaling and printing quality in Gimp) I learnt how to modify the PDFs and print more of the stuff I wanted on one paper, huzza for saving paper and ink!!
Then I printed from Canals 4x 3" dock walls, also in Thoumont I printed 1x 6", 1x 3" and 1x 4.5" (homemade on Fireworks) connectors.
I cut 4 pieces of foamboard: 2 of 6x2" and 2 of 6"(-1cm for the thickness of two pieces of foamboard)x2". I printed all those on label paper.
Basically the gallows won't be foldable (I thought it would be too frail otherwise)

Then I cut 3 pieces of foamboard one of 6.6" (2" will be going inside the gallows box to allow better solidity) one of 2.2" and one of 1.13".


I was going to proceed by simply sticking my label paper on those foam sticks however because WWG uses I think foambaord a little thicker than in europe you can't have a straight "wrap around". So I cut those connectors in half along the length first and then slimmed each side of a couple of mm, before wrapping them, and then glue:



Here's the final piece:




I did get some comment that my layout isn't the best for gaming (particularly the wall splitting the board in 2) so I'm rethinking the original plan. Maybe in the meantime WWG will release HVStreets DESTROYED, but so far I'm gonna go with more arches to open line of sights.

As to the comment about the wall, that would only be true if you use a solid wall. If you use either teh single or triple arch walls, then you have free movement and fire lines between the 2 board halves and cover save for people actually under the upper tier. Think of it like an urban forest.

Ok, Phased one from TLX is over: main board is now completed at last!
In my quest I have had to do a couple of alteration to WWG perfect design to suit my neediness . I must admit that being able to play with the PDFs on Fireworks really made the project more adaptable, and probably saved me LOADS of paper and ink!!

The unsupported walls are too flimsy and bendy so I've used only those with support at the top only. I came to a little issue with the Garden walls which are mostly without support, so I added support by printing the support only of the supported wall to add it to the non-supported walls:


I also raised the arching of the HVstreets a little to fit my Malifaux scale (original at the bottom, raised at the top):


Then after I winged for a HVstreets DESTROYED released (:P), I saw what had been done for the dwarf hall extension so tried to do it too with reasonable success. Note that I also added the support on those too, but placed it at the bottom:


I wanted to add some wooded area for my board so started building the TLX tree walls but quickly realised it would not have been playable to lift up walls when models go through it as the posts would unslot etc... so I decided to go for the normal 3D tree wall which I cut shorter (slightly less than 6 ", I printed the Forest plain tile on foamboard and cut my 6" square into a more rounded random area, and used the wall simply in the middle of it to represent the wooded area:


So that's it the whole board it done! Here we go (I used my old WWG houses and props from villageworks as well as, God forbid, some props from competition for barrels, hay and stacked wood, because I couldn't find a WWG product with this kind of props only ):

I second the usefulness of playing with the PDFs in Fireworks (and/or GIMP as well, even though I've got odd scaling issues with GIMP). Adding support to the bottom of the walls wasn't something I'd considered - is it necessary if the wall isn't going to be supporting any weight?

The problem with the gallows is that I kinda cut-as-you-go the prints, and I'm not really good enough with the Fireworks to set up a template with the exact size ready to cut :/
The HV destroyed could be done however, as it's quite easy to create (cut the wall then smir black on the edges and voila!). I'll look into that.

That would be great if you could release the destroyed wall. And maybe make some more destroyed variants too for some variety.

You could make your own destroyed wall by actually burning part of the wall, that's what I'm going to do when I build my Dwarven Halls.

Fire does not like me. And also I think that you might get bits of ash falling off and possibly smudging the terrain. If you try it be sure to let us know how it works out though

I personally have used fire to make handouts more realistic and to bring that little something extra to the game session, but I haven't gone the route of taking the flame to my terrain...yet.

IIRC, there is at least one thread around here with pictures that has the results of someone burning some buildings. If my mind serves me right I think it was villageworks, but it might have been some CWU buildings.
