WorldWorks 2005 Lineup

There are a ton of really exciting developments happening these days in the dank dungeons at WorldWorks. After a couple years of struggling we seem to be finding our feet and drawing some much needed attention from the industry at large. Thanks to your dedication, financial and word of mouth support you have helped to propel WorldWorks into the next step of its evolution. What follows is a list of projects in the crosshairs for the early part of 2005.

WorldWorks Store:

After a long year of promises we are very near the launch of the official WorldWorks store. For the first time we will be able to offer our customers some of the unique specials and combination buys we’ve been unable to create in the past. The whole shopping progression will be handled in one smooth integrated process. All of this culminating in a store that will ultimately help WorldWorks gain some much needed stability and offer its customers a much better shopping experience overall.

Rezolution and the future of Sci-Fi:

WorldWorks will be the official terrain builder for the upcoming Sci-Fi blockbuster game “Rezolution”. Details are a bit cloaked at the moment but I can tell you that this is a MAJOR development. There are some bigtime industry players developing for this game and it could very well push WorldWorks into the spotlight once and for all. Suffice to say WorldWorks will be producing Sci-Fi terrain for some time to come. Expect a good cross-section of looks from a variety of Sci-Fi genres.

“VillageWorks Ultimate” and “CastleWorks Ultimate Expansion” are mutating into:


I’ve decided to reinvent the wheel in a sense and take things down a slightly different path with our medieval/fantasy themed sets. Within “CityWorks: The streets of Himmelveil” project a map of the city will develop before your very eyes and each district will have unique releases associated with it (Those calls for Magician’s Guilds and ornate cathedrals have not fallen on deaf ears). We will be releasing highly detailed buildings for the many rich environments found in (and around) Himmelveil. Some releases may be a single building while others are closer to the mega sets of old. The main idea being to shorten the length of development time it takes to get new models your way and to offer more richly developed models. More releases, more often is the 2005 modo.

Ninjas Rejoice:

I can’t give too many details at this time but another unique partnership with a game producer is prompting us to develop scenery that all aspiring Ninja will drool over.

More Adventures:

A profound development throughout 2005 will be a tighter integration between adventures and model sets. It is hoped that with each new release there will be a short adventure or background associated with a given model set. Campaigns are in the works with new writers and artists being brought onboard the WorldWorks machine.

Standees (paper stand ups):

We have a very talented artist standing by who is dying to tackle the standees market. Expect a whole series of affordable and very cool WorldWorks standees coming your way.

Big Secret Project X:

I am hoping that this will be the year of “Project X” but it will depend largely on how stable some of my newfound relationships are. Because the project requires some manufacturing dollars it is still in the balance. If I can get the ball rolling you may see this in less than 6 months. Here’s hoping

Well kids that about covers the majority of 2005. Within each of these projects there is a tremendous potential for growth and you are likely to see some substantial work coming out of WorldWorks throughout the year. There are also projects that I have not mentioned here either because they are tenuous or they simply can’t be talked about at this time. I may have said it before but this really is just the beginning for WorldWorks games. And please don’t forget that your input is a vital part of the process here. These projects will always default to your wants and needs as gamers and we will do everything we can to satisfy your desires.

I will have to see what is in the new sets, but I can hardly wait. Though I would have liked to see the CWU expansion first, can't help it - I want the square towers! Although it sounds like sooner or later they will be in City Works, so I just have to be patient... (Yes, me prescious... we's can be patient...*Gollum*) The only project I can't build up any enthusiasm for is the standees, I like me minis!

However, that said... City Works? YAY!!!

Sound like you listened to the customer base... I like the Idea of developing a whole city with smaller subsets. IMHO it coresponds well to the structure of different themed quarters. Smaller releases that are (hopefully) more frequent won't hurt either.

SF & Rezolution
Nice to hear that you won't abbandon the SF crowd...
As for Rezolution, just went over there and looked at the website.. saddly not much to look at right now, but that will probably change. The game despriction sounded a bit Shadowrun'esque to me... could be fun. Even if the game fails (which I don't hope), we would still have your scenery

If that means some decent Asian style scenery, I am sold Those buidlings would be a blast to built and look at. Although they would probably require a bit more geometry than your average fantasy hovel.
But I wouldn't mind the extra effort.


Adventures
Okay with me - but truth tro be told... I have no intention to buy one. Half of the fun for me as GM is stretching my own mental muscles and create something new.


Standees
Auld Grump is right here: I' take minis over standess every day. Buidling nice three-dimensional scenery and populating them with flatties just doesn't seem right to me

Denny the usual questions and ideas:

CityWorks: The streets of Himmelveil, I must say I like this direction very much. One of the things that popped into my head is " Would it not be cool to do a district map of Himmelveil – like most major cities in RPG’s and then aim set/ mini set or one offs to that area? This would also allow us, the forum, to product fluff for some of the city while still letting you keep your baby.

The integration of CW:U expansion into the CityWorks is very cool (even though we will have to wait longer ) because it tell us that PaperLix is going to be used.


AsiaWorks: Another great and needed set – even if you (the user) doesn’t “do” Orient, it could allow variations in the cities we build or add structures to gardens to theme areas.


A stand-up Artist – I love it! I also hope that he(?) will do some of the main stream races to allow us to play games that require hundreds of mini (thousands of dollars ) to play. Also the idea of having everyday citizens pop. the streets of Himmelveil is so good that you want to have a fight in the city just to see the damage you can cause ( or the damage that the mob with do to the players!!). Does he/she do trees as well?



Ok where did the name “Himmelveil” come from? Where you playing with a name randomizer, or is there a tale that goes with it?

It’s all very good new about the contracts with the bigger boys. The ideas on Rezolution web page http://www.rezolutiondt.com/ sound like it would be fun – your work will be done onto CD-ROM and included with the starter set?

I’ll like to end saying I’m truly happy that I can call WWG and the folk of this forum my friends and to know that some small part of me is in some of the products that grace gaming tables world wide because of Denny’s crew.

I once thought that a stand-up would never take the place of a nice mini - and it wont but now I have no room nor time (or money) to paint the little buggers. Being a WWG product of today standards means that a figure on Cardstock will 9/10 times bet anything I could do. Yes I might keep PC metals (got to love reaper) but the rest .... so many a time I have nearly bought D&D painted rubber (shudder).

I'm excited for the format of CityWorks. Modular releases of districts and buildings sounds like a fantastic plan. And more releases is a Good Thing. (My only plea is please don't forget the Simple Versions of buildings in CityWorks!)

Paper Standups - I'm actually looking forward to this. I like minis, but standups have their place as well. I hope your artist does multiple genres. I have a lot of fantasy minis, and there is a decent selection of fantasy standups, but its tough to find good modern and scifi standups (or at least at the WWG quality level).

More SciFi! Cool. Does that mean First Light is just about done.

When I read your blurb on "CityWorks", I immediately thought of a group of players (and me, the DM...) 'walking' mini's thourgh the streets of the "City-State of the Invincible Overlord"... In my mind, I saw an entire Ping Pong Table (mine, of course...), covered in a miniature, fantasy city, with winding streets, dark alleys, and adventures popping out of every nook, cranny, and sewer, on every street... Who needs mind-altering chemicals? Just bring your imagination for a visit to this forum!

From a purely business point of view (well, mostly business, anyway), this is an iceberg, waiting to slip into the ocean, with just the tip showing... It has incredible potential, both for marketing, and for the consumers. Awesome idea, Denny! Just awesome! Put together a theme, and an overall map of the city, and you will have a wonderful, never seen before, product line, with virtually guaranteed sucess!

This reminds me of "The Visual Dungeon", of Gen Con 1982... It was well advertised, all over the U-W Parkside Campus. It was a plywood, 3-D dungeon, where the referee's would consult a random table, when players' mini's entered a room, and plop in the monsters for them to fight. It was simplistic, but visually stunning. It was quite large, with 100+ rooms, all of which were covered, until entered. The most interesting thing about it, was its popularity! They ran games every two hours, and they always had at least six players. We estimated they hauled in over $3,000, over the course of the four-day weekend. And that was 22 years ago! Your current dungeon stuff already makes this possible for gamers, but this new idea takes it a step further, offering a city, as well as a dungeon! Incredible!!! Cheers!
