I played a game of Malifaux tonight against my son and took some pictures of the board I made some time ago.
The street-tiles and canal-tiles have magnets in the sides for ease of constructing.

Ok, I have to ask, how did you make the foutain? I was playing around with 3d versions of that but never went too far with it.

Very nicely done! I too am interested in what you have to say about the 3D fountain. Would love to have one for my table, but haven't put the thought into one yet.

It's because of Sholto that I build what you see now. I simplified his design a bit. His canal walls are about 2 inch high, but that's an awfull lot of work.

About the "3D fountain": do you mean the round one in the 3rd picture? Because there's another one, but hardly visible, that's a copy of Ratty. The round one is really easy: just printed out twice the tile. Cut out the round fountain wall (mounted on foamcore) and glue onto the fountain tile. Add Envirotex Lite water and voila, you got your fountain upgrade.

I love what you've done with the canals. Looks very impressive indeed. Is there a thread around here somewhere on how to produce the effect? It looks like double-strenght tiles to me, am I far off?

Base layer of 3mm foamcore onto which the watertile-print is glued. Then the sidewalks on 5mm foamcore which is glued on top of the 3mm foamcore tile already made.
Rare earth magnet in the corner of the 4 sides of the tile and 4 nails in the other corners of the 4 sides. This way I can set up my board in minutes.
For the Himmelveil Streets I reversed the hights of the foamcore: street level onto 5mm foamcore, sidewalks onto 3mm foamcore.

The fun thing is that when Greenbull and I have a game, we are arguing beforehand who can bring his WWG terrain. It is a real bad thing for my wallet having somebody else with the same love for cardboard terrain in your gaming club. Especially when you are always trying to make something cooler

Looks great! I've been thinking about doing a magnet mounting system on the sides of my tiles, just haven't gotten around to doing it. Was thinking of using a magnet/metal plate system like the attached image.



That way, I wouldn't need to worry about polarity!

I've got to order some more rare earth magnets, square ones this time and then see if I can find a similar sized square metal piece of the same size so I can fabricate the bases easier!

I keep putting off doing Thoumonts in foamcore, hoping that Terraclips will come out and spare me the trouble. Seeing this makes me not want to put it off any longer. Did you do interiors?

@Skunkape: i superglued 3mm cylindermagnets to nails and inserted those in the sides. Just flat round-headed nails in the other 4 corners. You are best not to make magnet to magnet connections indeed because of polarity issues, but more so because any innacuracy in the placement of 2 opposing magnets gives you innacuracies in tile placement as well!

Wow, that's a great idea! The great thing about using that approach another cardstock gaming company has a template for placing toothpicks in their ground tiles that would also work for your nail idea and would allow for more accurate placement. You'd align the template against the side of the completed ground tile, then push the nail partway through the opening in the template to create the starting hole in the ground tile. Once you had all of the holes created, remove the template and push the nail all the way in!

The images look a bit grayish, but I don't think it's really so. The direct flash camera's own flash wrecks havoc on the colors. It wouldn't be possible to take more pics in daylight?

Yeah camera flashes generally kill photos with printed cardstock in them. Its too bad because a lot of folks assume that's what they look like only to be pleasantly shocked when they see things in real life.

I dream of the day our scenery is completed to look anything like as good as this one, and to finally play our first game of Malifaux on it....

Daaang that is a huge build.... and looks awesome as well! Great work on such a large scale setup!

What strength magnets did you use for that build? I just test-built using N35 3mmx1.5mm and through two sheets of cardstock they're really not able to give much more than a little bit of hold, not much. I'm trying picking up some N50 3mmx1mm magnets to see if that improves things. Thanks for the idea, sure is a lot of fun to be playing with this again!

What is it about Malifuax players and their of water effects?

Gorgeous build and the ability to do this is why TCP and TLX will live happily side by side.

We need someplace for our Silurids to nest in.
