Well guys, I've been promising pics of my first build for awhile, and I've finally completed the 2' x 2' section I've mapped out. I'll discuss it after these pics:









I realized as I was resizing these that a few of the walls aren't pushed all the way down, probably because I was moving this around. If anyone would like a picture from a different angle, let me know.

This was a lot of work. I'm actually really surprised by how much of a pain it was, until I got to the end and realized everything that takes forever is in the base tiles. I've been hearing a lot of complaints about Posts, and I firmly dreaded getting to that stage, but that wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be and not no where close to as bad as all the anchors I had to cut, edge and glue.

If you're out there thinking about picking up TLX, I'd highly recommend a robo cutter. That Silhouette SD basically allowed me to finish the build. I've yet to get it to fully cut anything, but the little bit of Exacto blade work needed to go around and get the pieces to come fully off the page is no where near as much work as cutting the anchors and posts.

So really, my two hang ups at the moment is cutting foam core, which I'm getting faster at, and cutting out anchors. I'm going to erase one problem, by editing the floor templates I use for hallways so they don't have the anchor spots on them. That will drastically cut down on how much work I need to do there. If I can successfully go that, I will be able to blow through the other 3 2'x2' sections.

So, any comments, criticisms, suggestions? I'm always open to ways to be faster and better.

That looks great, but I'd advise keeping the anchors. Just because this build won't need them, a future build might. I've had pieces of the old Dungeon set sitting around for 5 or 6 years that I took shortcuts on, only to look back and wish I hadn't. The robo cutter will help, though. If it's an "SD" try changing the cap out. Mine is using the red one at the moment.

I used the red cap until the blade went dull. Then I replaced it with one of those newer style that doesn't use the cap, it has the numbers on it. I have it set currently to 5, which gets about 80% of the cut done.

So, I'm done with this build. I fell short of the 6'x4' table I wanted to make, and have settled for a 4'x4'. The funny thing is, I had the time to actually build out the entire thing, I dropped it to 4x4 because we found that we didn't need the extra 2 feet. Hell, I'm not sure we needed all 4 feet. We ran a test game a month ago on just the 2x4 room section and it worked fantastic. We'll see if I use the whole thing at Templecon. Only thing left to do is assemble some more props to fill in, and I might add a room or two in the grey "Cargo Bay" section to give more cover. I haven't made up my mind yet.

The props are a lot smaller than I was hoping for. I really think I'm going to need to build a room or two in the Cargo section. I love the way the Sector Sigma metal tiles look, and they contrast well with the yellow actually.

I'd love some feedback from you guys, what you like, what you think I could have done better, what you think I should do to make it look good.

Again, we plan on using this at this years Templecon in Warwick RI. Anyone in the area who is attending stop over and hang out. We'll have all the miniatures and dice needed, you can just come over and play a game and hang out.

I appreciate that Mr. Proteau. I have his site book marked, as I really like some of the models he has up for sale. Didn't see the free stuff, you're right, a ship or two would be perfect. I'm under 3 weeks to the event though, depending on how long it takes to assemble it may not be worth it, though I will add them to my collection just in case.

I may toss in some Warhammer 40k plastic vehicles if I do run out of time.
