Morning All.

Although I own every (non-modern) TLX set going, I have only dabbled with the smallest of builds before now (using Himmelveil Canals for my big City build of a couple of years ago).

I decided the time has come to change that. I always loved my old DungeonLinx 2.5D stuff and so, a month ago, I set out to build a decent LotDG build. Working an hour or two per night, this is what I have achieved so far.

P.S. My Sillhouette SD is bust, so I have had to hand cut most of the prints!!

Then, having grafted and created a positive cornucopia of TLX elements, I set out to see what I could build and came up with this small setup, before running out of posts and walls.

I am very pleased with the setup and now can see how well TLX will work. Once I have enough bits for the build I have in mind (about 4 times bigger than the one above), I will be able to design something quite wonderful.

It's going to take a lot of effort though, and unlike my builds of old (CastleWorks, VillageWorks, Hellworks etc), the buzz of seeing it come to life doesn't happen till right at the end. Ah well, onwards and upwards.

Interestingly, I have come up with two ways of building the setup shown. Firstly, I interlocked all of the rooms with double width posts and was hugely surprised how strong and stable the build was. Really good for handling and playing on. However, not so good for a modular reveal of the set up.

So I went back and rebuilt it, making each separate room a separate build that could be introduced onto the table as the gamers open each new door, keeping the suspense going. The build is still very useable, but not quite so strong. I shall use this method though as I think it gives a better gameplay experience for the players.

The photo below shows the three elements that make up the build, each of which gets brought to the table and slotted in (using special thin TLX connectors for ease of use) at the appropriate time.

So, the title of this thread refers to the length of time it takes and repetitive nature of a TLX build. There are days where I cannot face yet another 6" by 6" tile with anchors or another 8 posts. Yet, I force myself to do a bit per night and the buzz eventually arrives when a build starts to come together.

(I just try not to think about the other 10 or 15 sets I want to build after this one lol)

I shall update this thread periodically as the build evolves. I am really looking forward to introducing lava streams and multi-level rooms.

Looks good so far. I know how you feel concerning the hour or so a night. I haven't bought a Silo yet, so I've always had to hand cut all of my models! But I can't imagine what it would be like to have 1 and then have it break!

I feel ya on the time commitment. I'm using Thoumont's TLX set at the moment to build a large warehouse (18x24 inches) for a session I'm having in a few weeks. Even spending a dedicated hour on it every night, it's coming along very slowly! Luckily those front laden time costs really pay off when you can re-arrange your set to get that little euphoria kick every time you make something new

I got distracted .

At Salute 2015 (the biggest UK gaming exhibition) last weekend, I picked up a few wild west figures. I will need to get them painted so that will take a while, but I wanted to see what terrain I could build and started fooling around with Deadfall.

I have built my first ever TLX building . Even better, it will work well as a Fantasy building.

Experiment over, back to LoTG

Well, I am still persevering, but it's a slow business. I finally assembled enough bits for one of my 3 big rooms that I have planned. The trouble is I have had to cannibalise all the posts and walls from my earlier builds above to do it. The sheer number of posts, walls and tiles required for a full table is daunting isn't it? Ah well, it's something to do.
