Ok, yeah no Builds as of Yet, this is a bit of a Design, first Pics following.

Nesst

About a week ago we started a new Star Wars Campaign with the Saga Rules. I did not want to use the Barloz I made for the last campaign about 2 to 3 years ago, so I needed a new ship.

I was originally thinking about a Baudo or Ghtroc 720, but both of those were more than I wanted to bash with in FL/FL:RF so I started looking around for a Ship that was a bit more Boxy. While I would love to be able to do a CEC-YT series (a round hulled ship like the Falcon) it would just be a pain in First light. So I needed something that if it turned out like looking a bit Boxy would not well look too out of place. So I stumbled on two Ships, the Nesst (or Nestt depending on which spelling you go by it is spelled two different ways in the source book it comes from) and the Muurain Transport. Both ships are a bit boxy and with some of the ad on bits from Retro fit could be done pretty well in FL.

So I set about mapping out some basic deck plans on graph paper, I can’t really get a true transfer of them over to the FL mapping tool, but here is the basics.

Note on Cargo area.
This ended up going through a bunch of different design flip flops, I have toyed and toyed with expanding the Cargo bays by 2 inches so it would be 8x6, and taking the front flap off, and making it a solid wall using an extra inside cargo wall.
In the end I decided on ease of construction and skipped making it an 8x6. I am trying to keep the ships length within an inch or so of what it should be, seeing as an inch is 1.5 meters in scale an extra two inches in the cargo bay is 3 meters I am not sure I could add that on with out a major bump in the ships length, when the modifications to the engine design are put in. It might be able to take 1 or 2 inches, I’m not sure… I will have to see.

But the deck plans are as follows.



Upper deck.
The bridge is a pretty close to the classic FL Bridge, except shorter, the side window will be cut off and a modified wall bit will go there instead.
A door will lead into a standard width corridor, but to the Port and starboard of the Bridge will be to a matched 2x4 “rooms” that will hold the Escape pods.
I may end up modifying the escape pods to 2x3 instead of the 2x2 foot print to allow for 6 occupants in a pod, but unsure yet it depends on how much time it takes and if they will fit nicely.
Next are the C/D rooms that are very modified ,they are getting the corridor facing walls completely removed and changed to two doors. A wall will bisect the room making it into 2 3x4 rooms, and one on each side of the ship for a total of 4 crew rooms.
1 will contain double bunks stock, for crew,
1 will be a galley/rec area,
1 set of bunks (passengers or Captain)
fourth is up in the air, thinking Medical area or left empty for the Owners to do what they want with it (could be spare cargo area).
Next are two Cargo holds, with a thin Corridor between them, at the back, a hole for a ladder to bellow.


Lower Deck
This deck is similar in lay out, but the Air lock is under the bridge, a ladder will be bolted on the wall, allowing for access up, exiting near one of the escape pods.
The Two small front 2x4 rooms will not have Escape pods, they instead will have “equipment”, think like computer cores, etc (basically the Chunky props from Retro fit) filling most of it, and area for Landing gear. (debating if it will actually punch through the Foam core, and allow for raising and lowering, I will try it…)
The next room is another 3x4 made in a similar way as above, this will have doors, and be storage.
However the last rooms before the Cargo bay, more 3x4 will contain the Generators. Yes smack in the middle of the ships, they won’t have the engine struts off the back, the generators are getting made with out them.
Then the other set of Main Cargo holds.
Rear wall has a ladder going up to the same “crawl” space.

Now, where are the engines? Good question, I am trying a very different method to mount them, and I can’t really get it to come out on the planner, so you will just have to wait and see…

Construction began last night, and one deck (upper) is pretty much done (pictures taken as well), But i am holding off on putting the pictures up till i have more than 3!
When i get the other Deck done then i will post, i need to get the Decks Built before i see how i am mounting the Engines...
So when both are done expect pictures,
I hope to have it finished over the weekend.

Almost, it is getting top mounted pods.
Basically the normall mount for the engines is instead of going up in the air and standing up, will go off the backs of the Cargo Bays.
So it will kind of jut off the ends, and allow for a break up of the lines on the top.

The look is based off of this http://deckplans.00sf.com/SoroSuub/Nest ... ighter.gif so i want the two main engines comming kind of thrusting off the back of the ship.

I was going to use, 2 of the Exterior Wedge bits for part of the landing pads on the back, then was trying to think of the way to use one of the Collumn Chunky props from Retro for the front legs. (in a perfect world i would like to have them slide in and out... so they can raise and lower in the front.)

The Muuraina will be getting top and bottom mounted pods.

Under slung pods would have been great to use for a style version of the Baudo. I would love for kind of "rocket" engine pods to come in a future FL:Upgrade if it ever comes...

I was able to get the bulk of the ship done, but i am about a day behind on what i wanted, stupid 24 hr bug on sunday had me couped up in bed all day so i have a bit more to do.

Much of the Design rational is the same for this as the so not going into it again.

No stairs, two ladders and not port holes, but drawing a blank, i guess hatches are the best word, are going in, one at the Blue cross hair thingy in the Bridge, and one some place in the back, near the end of the Cargo holds. I am still messing with a few ideas on what i want to do back there so not fully conceptulized yet, so not placed.

The little indents on the front are where the Landing gear are going to go and if it get it working right they should go up and nicely... and support the full weight

I am going more along the idea of a working ship, where space is at a premium, why waste the room for Stairs, when a ladder will work?

Ok Finally had a chance to almost finish these ships up.

The Nesstt is "done" it needs a few fine details (windows in the doors, etc) and some of the Props, like beds, etc. But for the most part the shell of the ship is done.

Back when i made the Barloz i made it becuase i didn't really want to run a Ghtroc anymore, but it is one of my favorite ships, so i took a try at it.
I figured it would be really hard to make the 720 in First Light, but with the addations with H3, i figured i might be able to do a passable version.

So i made some deckplans bassed off of these, the basis for the Ship...

LD2062,gloriar and all I was planning on putting up the fully finished ship, but since there are three ships that the PC's in our RPG could choose from buying the G720, the Nesstt, and the Muurain, I didn't want to make three sets of props, i am only making 1 set and will put it into the ship they buy, So for now these are just the shells and they will buy one and then it will get outfitted, becuase i know they will be completly changing the guns and a few things, so i didnt' want to attach them and then rip them off...

(but then why make three ships, i plan on having the other be owned and operated by NPC's etc, and they are just fun to make)

I want to add some totally useless but cool looking in my mind stuff to the outside to break up the outlines of the G720, to make it look a bit more like the ship it is designed after. Will put the i think long corridor roof from FL (the one that is on the Nesstt by the bridge) to the Passanger cabins/escape pods in the rear, and print out the Power core base from Red Sector as the "dome" and then i am actually thinking about printing out shells for the botton of the ship, so it will have a full hull top and bottom, and then it will be complete.

I actually have 75% of the Muurain done, but i realised i made a BIG mistake on the floor plans which i have to decide how i am going to fix.... So it is sitting in Dry dock, while i figure out how to fix it, (and get more cardstock...)

This is a bit of an update, I hope to finish up the Onyx Spirit (the name of the PC’s Ghtroc 720), over the weekend then post pictures of it and the HT-2200 that I started last night as a brainstorm strike.
For a while now I have been planning an adventure, which takes place on board a Freighter, with a DECENT bit of cargo space. I was going to use the Muurain I have been building as that ship, but as I fleshed out the Adventure the Muurain class of ship and it’s established place in galaxy history etc made it really not what I had in mind, so I was thinking about what other ship could fill the slot I had in the adventure, and it hit, the HT-2200. A ship I have thought about making about 3 or 4 times with FL, or FL:R but never did because I know my Players and they would have Hated the ship. However it works well for what I want it for in the adventure, really well actually, and it has the MASSIVE amount of cargo space needed for the plot. But there were always a few odd bits that made it tough to do, but then add in the diagonals and the biggest thing about making the ship in FL goes out the window and is replaced by a very nice fix.

So In a fit of very quick building last night, I busted out the Bridge, the Engine room, and printed off the needed materials for the Cargo holds, which I hope to build tonight during Dead lands.
As a side note WOW, you can build these things fast if you forgo edging and a few other things….


All that will remain are the crew quarters, on the lowest deck, which will require a few pages to be printed off, and doing a bit of a bash from Mels’ UD-41 for the engines (which I am working on now….) but after that the ship will be done, and it may have been complete in just a few hours.

Pictures coming later, but for now here is what the source of the ship is.
, and lastly some for it (I don’t use them, but they did give me some ideas.

From the WEG Pirates and Privateers, but it has some of the big mistakes that WEG tend to have, (namely size seems to just be made up) it lists the ship as being 54.8m long, but that is just Way Too long if you go by the parts of the ship. The cockpit is either really big, for the required crew of two, and the 4 seats are for huge people, or the cockpit is the same size as the Falcon and all other CEC ships of this general class and the dimensions are just really off, almost x2 as big as it should be. If you say “F” the given dimensions and go by the size of the cockpit which gives you a better estimate for the ship in the 25-30m range (it also fits in with what the ship is supposed to do, be a more freight dedicated version of the YT-1300, so something about the falcon size but deigned for Cargo and that’s it about it, doing that it fits better at the 30m size range). So running with that as a guide I designed to be 18 inches long, or 27m in scale, nicely in what it looks like it should be and the silhouette looks like it should be.

So where does the 18 inches come from.
The two cargo arms, with the 4 pods are 2 6x6 inch rooms side by side. Giving it a total of 4 cargo holds, each hold will have walls double stacked with no floors making them 4 inches tall. Giving it the largest hold of any ship I have built. From outer port to outer Starboard Cargo walls they will 17 inches across (with 5 inches between the insides of the arms). On that same level in the 5 inches between the two arms, is where the entry way is. This will enter a corridor that is going into the main crew quarter floor/passengers.
There will be some Filler elements on this level to connect the Pods to the crew floor (the large triangles one on each side of the 6 long x11 wide, to give that kind of taper.
Next the level shrinks a bit cutting 6 inches off a side, (which will have perpendicular 3 inch triangles from H3 to give a sloped edge and give it more of the shape you see in the pictures, The play area will be a 5x6 room that is the engine room,
The upper and final level is also 5x6 split into 2 rooms, and jutting off of this room into the open space between the arms is the cockpit, at my standard 3x3.

All and all a pretty simple build

Last week in my star wars rpg I started the PC’s on a side quest, part of it I wanted to deal with a fight aboard a Freighter, or in the general area. My original idea was to use the Muurian I am building, but as I mentioned above I discarded the idea. The game is on Tuesday night and I finished up the concept of the adventure as I was driving home last week, so I needed a new ship.
Wednesday June 4th, go to work with a pad of graph paper knowing I want a new ship, look around net and remember HT-2200, decide to use it. Go home and find parts printed that will work. Knock out the Bridge level, and start printing cargo hold and other items.
Thursday june 5th, go to Deadlands with printed parts, cut, score, fold all sections
Friday June 6th, Build, Build Build
Saturday june 7th, more building
Sunday June 8th Print Parts from UD41 Build Engines
Monday June 9th Complete ship, add support, and roofing.

You can knock one of these out in a few days if you forgo the windows and doors, and edging.

The ship is a bit rugged, and not 100% completed, but I er need it for tonight, and had the idea less than a week ago.

Note the ship needs more props, but this is a start.

, Right now it’s pretty open, I want to make an access port for a droid, and some connecters from the engine to the thrusters. As well as drop in the hypercore, but well didn’t finish everything.

I just started a HT-2200 for our new game and in looking for more deck plan ideas I found this. Looks great.

Question, how big is it?

when I did the math to be compatable with Saga the 54.8 meters L = 36.5 in L and just over 30 in W.

I hope to start the layout soon.

Is there any way to go about getting the files to make the Ghtroc Class 720 posted earlier in this thread? I would LOVE to be able to use that in my game instead of the old dry erase board we've been using.

There are no real plans, it was as mproteau said in the thread it is a kit bash of some First light and First light II files.

The two cargo holds are from FL, as well as most of the interiors, engine parts and escape pods.
The angled exterior sections are from FLII, and the bridge, and exterior hull, and thrusters.
