Would it be possible to run just the cutting process then replace the cutting blade with a very dull blade that would not cut and then run just the scoring process so a shallow indentation is applied along the scoring line instead of a shallow cut?

The question is along the lines of . It doesn't answer your question directly, but it's more information about what some community have come up with before.

Anyone try something like what's available ? The adjustable holder looks pretty neat, and a cheapo embossing tool, if it works, would be great.

Yup,

(1) Craft embossing tools,
(2) Old ballpoint pen,
(3) Blunted (file/paper) metal tool, like certain dental tools.

I also have two metal tools, I got from a local market, which I guess are some kind of fabric craft tool (like short - 5", 2-ended knitting needles), which are very handy for scoring and sculpting.

Then again, I quite like full score gaps, for many projects (can't be doing with dotted lines on the piece)

I have used a thick nail with a fairly rounded tip (well the thip itself is pointy but.. well you get the idea) and it was far better than scoring.

Yeah, I use an embroidery needle that I encased in a wooden handle or sometimes a stylus to do my scoring. I was just wondering if the Sihouette or Cameo cutting machines could score without cutting the cardstock if you modified a blade. The embossing tip referenced in one of the other posts in mproteau's reply looks interesting.
