I already ordered mine. I'll give a report once I get to play with it a little.

I'm not nearly as excited. I mean, I know their technology for detecting edges and cutting things out, and I couldn't tell from the video, but the stuff I typically cut out wouldn't work with this at all. Also, yeah, the reg marks are on the mat, but that means they're not aligned to the image on the page as well as if the reg marks are printed with the image. That means the cuts aren't likely going to be accurate enough to cut out any of the stuff I normally cut.

I'm really looking forward to hearing that the thing is a game-changer.

And, shoot - they're snapping photos at funny angles. No matter how great it is in squaring up the image, it's not going to be perfect.

It just seems safer to import the image into studio, and it seems to me like it would take less time to do that than it would to use this mat.

Not sure how I feel about this one. The question is what could we use it for?

I see two different things here.

1) [The most important for me] With an already printed sheet of paper and a cutfile designed for that case, you can cut out a model.

2) The photo-input thingy (which I'm not all that excited about.)

For those of us who make cutfiles for *existing* non-regmarked sets, the instructions for people using the cutfiles are much easier: "Load on a pixscan cutsheet and press cut."

I'm hoping this means that the cut area grows a bit as well...

That way more kits get converted, including those that are PDF *locked* (because of various false beliefs about security.)

Sure, those of us making the files have to still bitmap-ize the PDF, but no one else will have to.

Yep, one thing that came to my mind when I first saw that web site for the pixscan mat is how much of an angle was used in taking a photo. Seems like a lot of distortion would be introduced. Scanning would be the better choice. You also still have to designate cut lines and score lines, although the adverts for the pixscan mat seem to gloss over that need, making it appear to be automatic and foolproof.

I think i saw one of these at my local brick and mortar I will pick one up and give it a try. 15 dollar isn't too bad to gamble with.

I checked out the store they didn't have any. I ordered one so I will let you know how it works when i get it.
