I had recently purchased several Mayhem Products and have been reading Denny's message on piracy. I say well done Denny. It is extremely important that we, as customers who purchase and download these wonderful models keep them to ourselves. The only thing I share with my fellow gamers is "www.worldworksgames.com". I purchased Dungeon Linx and paied a lousy $10.00. Geez guys (and gals) that's insane. The quality and (I can only imagine) the time put into it and it only came to $10.00. I also purchased Mayhem Downtown...7 bucks...what's up with that?

Please, let's purchase and keep our products to ourselves. Encourage your felloe gamers or modellers to purchase these models so Denny and his home-boys can keep producing these wonderful products at such a low price. For once in my life I can truly afford and enjoy my gaming experiences.

I can't agree more. I also can't agree more with Denny's dissertation on the origins of piracy.

I couldn't agree more and it's refreshing to hear others feel strongly about not sharing WWG products. Compared to other products in the gaming industry, the WWG products are extremely low cost.

Also, I can see why Mayhem Downtown was a lower price but I agree that it could have easily sold for $10. In fact, I remember being surprised that it wasn't $10 when I bought it.

I have had requests for copies of WWG stuff from buddies, but have flatly denied them, and pointed them in the direction of the store. I respect the crew here too much to encourage piracy

I would imagine that it wouldn't be a problem to do so, as long as you didn't make any profit from it. For example, I gave my wife some jewelry today, but it was inside the treasure chest from , surrounded by red and silver hershey's kisses. She loved it btw

She was, but I wasn't too happy with the build. I needed a little more lip on the lid where it glues at the back. Because I didn't have enough there, I glued it a little low, so you can see how opening it causes splitting at the back corners

Still, she loved it, and that's the most important part.

Most women seem to appreciate the effort part and you did good. I just boought flowers for my wife and daughter.

Flowers are always good... you can never go wrong with a nice bunch of flowers. Also, don't sell yourself short... it takes time and effort to select the right bunch of flowers. Sure, you could just walk into a florist and say, "Give me a couple of bunches of anything for $$$" but I don't know of any guys that do that.

I don't think cardstock flowers would work though... unless you scented them... and at that point you'd be better of buying some fresh ones

Thanks for the support all. I've never really had issues with people building sets as gifts for friends/family. It only becomes an issue when someone is making a profit from those actions. We all know how much energy goes into actually building the sets, so if you're doing that out the kindness of your heart as a gift then that's really big of you.

Sharing the files with friends has always been the big issue for us (and or on file sharing networks and Ebay). We've taken great pains to be clear about just where we stand on piracy and I think we have a pretty level head about the whole thing. It's not that we don't understand the reasons people "pirate" but rather we are doing everything we can to educate and make that behavior ultimately "not worth while". We keep the prices realistic, the product quality high, the community interaction buzzing, the support strong and we take great pains to make customers realize that REAL people, with real bills are counting on them. After nearly 5 years although It's still a small but growing business we have moved beyond the experiment phase and into a role that directly supports its creators in very real terms.

Frankly I would love to reach a size where "piracy fit into the yearly budget" but we certainly aren't there yet and your support is vital to our future growth. Even if it is a niche and strange little world here, it is a cause we feel strongly about none the less

Yeah the making of models and kitbashing is a weird one, since it is encouraged, obviously, but is technically against the rules. Definitely need a lawyer to help rewrite tha stuff. Although most contracts do contain so many clauses that are not enforced, just in case they need/want to be enforced later. It doesn't help the end user know what is right and wrong though.

The kitbash policy supercedes the general license agreement where applicable. This isn't fuzzy, there is no ambiguity. It exists in the link above.

As far as avatars goes, I think that is getting unduly picky. But to address it, the avatars are a) not for commercial use, b) typically not for use elsewhere, and c) commissioned and created by WWG personnel to use on the WWG message board. Nowhere in any of those three cases do I see a copyright or license violation.

Robby, by all means moderate as you must. I have to assume you are specifically speaking of my posts since I actually went into depth about my thought process on the matter. Which as I said is something I personally have had dealings with due to the nature of the field I am in.

As far as being a congenial moderator, you seem to be having a bit of a hard day as your comments are direct, concise and pointed. A bit frayed?

Not a single person including myself has written about any methods to screw WWG. Indeed not a single person has posted without the best intentions to help protect WWG from any unscrupulous acts. So please don't act like 'we' 'me' are out to get you.

I have brought up thoughts and points based on what comes to mind. Not to cause trouble, not to usurp, not to be a dick. But to make sure all the holes are plugged and food for thought.

This is after all a forum, which by nature is about community and discussion about relevant subjects.

If thats a problem, fine. I can buy what I need, not give a crap and let the community F off.

I personally rather like it around here, I however, have plenty of things to fill my life with as an alternative.

I didn't mean to sound particularly terse - I just don't have a lot to say about the matter that Denny hasn't already addressed in some form.

Over the years I've seen this topic come up more than once, and its gotten heated. Denny has taken specific actions to help avoid any troubles in this area. I'm all for discussions of piracy and legalese in general, but when it comes to WWG's policies (in specific, the license agreement and kitbash policy), I was making sure to point them out and attempt to remove any ambiguity.

If I came across as over-harsh, my apologies. Twas not my intent at all. Quite the opposite, my goal is to keep the peace.

No problem on the post, I will keep an eye on the thread. It was a genuine query on that site as to what was right and wrong, so I think it'll work out well.

I don't want to drag out this whole arguement/conversation again either, but... if people are reading the conditions of use and thinking that it means the technically couldn't do most of their builds... and then they see the gallery where no models contain the copyright message, and most models are modified in some way, they might be under the impression that the policy is not enforced. I totally agree with the policy and am 110% against piracy of WWG products, but perhaps there is room to reword it a little (yet again) without it growing too long.

Policies are always a pain and need to constantly be rewritten to match the current thinking of the target audience. It's unfortunate, but might be good to take a look at soon.
