Hope there are lots of 3D rubble piles! Maybe a car with a body or skeleton in it ... hmmm, the list is making my head spin ... a feral animal pack. A huge sink hole exposing part of the underground subway with evidence of squatters using one of the cars ... dumpster and car barricades ... whatever, I know it'll all be good.

Well, I'll just skip right over whatever that was about.

Speaking of ruins however, I just saw a movie 'Island on Bird Street' that is totally set within building ruins. Incredible source material for whoever might be interested. I had never seen ruins inside and out so clearly. The sets for that film were awesome! The story it told was heartbreaking however. I watched it twice ... the second time, concentrating on the ruins.

Ordered it from Netflix.

A forum for urban exploration. Lots of pics of ruined modern day buildings, in various stats of dis-repair. Very awesome site!

Sweet. More post zombie apocalypse cities to explore. Not to mention all those places where zeds might hide. I can work on a Silent Hill like setting. WWG rule, ftw!

The more I think about it what is always lacking in cardstock ruins is rubble piles ... rubble period. Having rubble just painted into the ground tiles isn't enough. You need 3D rubble hills ... partly flat artwork but then beams, rebar, or other 3D element sticking out of those mini hills of rubble to create real interest and obstructions. Just an opinion.

Regular ground tiles that look caked in pulverized cement would be great too. Just a whole atmosphere of grey and other muted colors (because of the dust everywhere). Broken slabs of cement we can place anywhere, which could make wicked ramps ... dangerous routes. Broken floors with parts that barely hang on ... neatly staged and reuseable hazards like that.

Well, I'm done dreaming for a while.

I agree with the rubble idea. Having 3-D (or 2.5-D) ruins with 2-D rubble looks odd, even if the ruins themselves are awesome. The rubble should look like it makes movement difficult or that it can be used for cover--or both!

I found the neatest little mound system at Mel Ebbles site. It comes in a variety of textures and can be configured in many ways. I think it will be excellent for making rubble mounds. You can never have enough of them.

Yep! You did a great job with that. What you did is what started me to look around for what I might use. When I spotted that small elevation scenery at Mel's it was like a 'bingo' moment. Its just right for my broken slab rubble heep needs. For variety in rubble heaps I'll be using your method as well.

I've considered printing out the SOM rubble tile to be about 10% bigger, and then crumpling it up to fit on a tile (with random bits of foamcore under it) - I reckon this might work. I might even try it tonight now you've jogged my memory

Those abandoned Maunsell Sea Forts are really interesting! They'd be neat used in a Waterword sort of game along with the beached freighter on an atoll. Hmmm ... I'll have to see what parts I can scrouge from the sets to pull that off. Another project too many, but I'll make a note of it anyway.
