Masterboard looks like it would be more solid since it can be made in one piece. Transporting it would the the con.

PaperLinX would be easier to transport, assemble, and then transport back, but might not be as solid (admittedly I haven't tried it yet), and would take more time to create. But from the pictures I've see it looks like a great alternative.

Try a little of both as an experiment! PaperLinX in one section, Masterboard in another. That way you can compare them.

The "PaperLinX" tiles are currently only available with "CastleWorks Ultimate". The rest of the sets use either the one piece "Masterboard", or the "Pro-Masterboard from Chunky Dungeons which rely on velcro, or magnets for interchangable parts & tiles (this should work for all the current standard "Masterboards" as well). I have printed out the CWU's "PaperLinX" tiles (based on matboard rather than foamcore) and I really like the way they come together. For the "Masterboards", I prefer to print out the tiles, base them, and place them together on the gaming table as tiles rather than one complete "Masterboard, a little unstable, but works for my games. It also allows for a modularity that "Masterboards" don't have. I am still working on a system that will allow me to connect the 7inch X 7inch tiles from the earlier sets into a similiar system to the CWU "PaperLinX" tiles. If this doesn't work, I will be checking out both velcro and magnet alternatives.

Very cool. Thanks for explaining that to me. I have been reading about matboards vs foamcore. I just got black foamcore and I am wondering how it will do. Matboard seems like another logical choice. Stiffer. Hmmm. I should Matboards.

I'm definately a Masterboard type (well, I suppose it would be "Pro-Masterboard", as I'm doing the Velcro thing). I actually base my tiles on Vinyl Tiles (the quick-and-cheap solution to laying down linoleum) rather than Matboard or foamcore.

It's cheap, it's pre-glued, thin enough to take up minimal storage while sturdy enough to hold up well. But it doesn't lend itself well at all to paperlinx.

I keep the current ones in stackable storage boxes in my bedroom. The older ones I give away. Sometimes this leads to new sales for WW, and other times it does not, but all have a little label saying where you can purchase the sets from.

To help keep the paper-linx things from getting all wonky, it's really important to do the 70-degree angle cut that Denny explains. That way, only the very top of the tiles actually touch each other, so there's less likelihood of them mis-aligning. The tabs are a bit tricky to get cut, but after a while you'll be practiced with them and (almost) not even need a ruler.

I'm getting ready to start on a CWU project myself and I'm planning on using the Linx system on foam core. My main reason is that this will be a fairly large project so I want it to be stable but 1) Storing it whole is not an option and 2) I want the pieces to be modular so that I can use them in different layouts later on.

About the only tip I have on the tabs is that I just cut them at a regular 90 degree angle, since it's a little faster with the ruler. After they're all cut out, I trim some of the sides off with the knife at an angle. Of course, I've gotten pretty good at freehand cuts now, so this may not be an option for you.
