Every once in a while, I try to find a way to do something to add a little "umph" to my builds. Usually, the ideas never get realized except in little sketches or in my "Ideas" notebook.

Today is different. I actually tried the idea and was finished in about 15 minutes. The concept is not really a new one (I've read discussions about it in the forum) and I have seen others' builds that incorporated a similar technique. However, it is such a simple idea and I thought I'd share it.

Below are a couple of pics of a finished section of fence from the Mayhem Junkyard set. I made extra post pieces and glued them (as well as the fence to help keep it straight) to some thin card (from a box of crackers) just to give them a little depth. After cutting them out, I glued them to the fence where Matt Lyon had already textured in posts --this made it easy to line them up evenly! And that was it.

That's a good idea for many of the wall textures. (InteriorWorks and Gothic Realms come to mind).

That's very nice. I like how just a little bit of 3D can really make these builds pop. Thanks for sharing that.

My windows from the crypt in my graveyard had a somewhat similar effect (viewable in my Shadowfell Keep thread)... Rather than printing out a transparency for the whole shebang I trimmed only the glass out of the cardstock and then put the transparency in underneath that. I was pretty happy with the end result because the frames popped out a little more. I really like the look of these fences though and want to see if I can come up with something similar in my other builds.
