Was: "Help adjusting brightness of laser prints"

Hi,

I recently bought a color laser printer (HP Color LaserJet CM1312nfi). It seems to do well, except that the colors are all too dark. Does anyone know how to adjust the brightness either in the printer or via the drivers (I use a Mac so Windows driver settings may not be the same).

I'm pretty sure that if I can figure out this last problem, then the stuff I print off will turn out much nicer.

I thought I'd share my findings regarding the HP Color LaserJet CM1312 nfi MFP with respect to printing.

Caveat: I use a Mac, so Windows settings may be different. I have been opening the PDFs using Preview and printing with the following settings:

Preview Menu
->Auto Rotate: Checked
->Scale: 100%
Color Matching Menu
-> ColorSync radio button enabled
-> Profile: "hp color LaserJet RGB v402"
Color/Quality Options Menu
-> Print Color as Gray: "Off - Image RET 3600"
-> Edge Control: Normal
Finishing Menu
-> Media Type: "Extra Heavy 131 -175 g"

I am using Xerox 110# Card Stock

The most important setting is in the Color Matching menu. The default is "Automatic" which will use the "hp color LaserJet CYMK v402" profile. This profile will make your prints look like a muddy mess.

Hopefully this will help someone else such that they don't have to try the various options blindly.

For Preview, 100% is the same as none (it only allows percentages). 100% being no scaling, it works fine. I've measured various TerrainLinX tiles and they all measure exactly the right size. When using Acrobat Reader, yes, I use "Scaling: None".
