While building gigantic promos I ran into a problem I'm sure many of you have already faced with TLX...storage and organization! I mean sure, you can throw all your bits in a big messy pile in a box but why not organize things for easy reference instead?

Basically "Boxed Set" is boxes of various configurations to store and organize your TLX components. Comes with a box for each and every core component type and includes customizable organizing separators. When our daughter was born this kinda took a back seat. I'll get back at it soon though!

**UPDATE** As mentioned later in this thread, we've decided to release this one for FREE. There's so much going on behind the scenes right now that we essentially had to let this project slide. That said, we felt it was better to get what was done out there for FREE rather than nothing at all.

We've decided to make this a freebie and a contest of sorts. Our hope is that the community takes this and runs with it to create all of the required boxes.

The Download:

This is bear bones stuff but contains the 6" tile box, 3" tile box and 6" wall box. Note: the 3" tiles stack vertically in that box in two rows (hence the divider and fold-over organizers). Here's a breakdown of what still needs to be created for a complete box set:

* Hall box with divider. Holds two rows of hall tiles.

* 3" Wall box with divider. Obviously holds two rows of 3" walls.

* Posts box: Should have 4 dividers in it to break things apart in a logical separation.

* Props box: holds loose props and stairs.

* TerrainlinX tabs box. Holds all your tabs

Submission Guidelines:

* For consistency and better storage conformity, all boxes should be the same dimensions (where possible).

* Though its not necessary for submission; feel free to reskin the boxes but you must be able to prove that the textures or skins used are not copyrighted against this type of usage. If you decide to use WWG textures you may do so BUT because these boxes are free, you may not spam an entire modelsets worth of walls or floor graphics on lids or box sides. Textures pulled from our modelsets must be used sparingly. Or in other words; we reserve the right to reject anything that steps over a line for us. Ideally you would skin the boxes with something creative, thematic and non modelset specific (Giant crates, treasure chests, Iron strapped casing...etc). GET CREATIVE!

* Feel free to submit by placing a link your files here, via a publicly available file server for approval.

* Box modifications: You CAN modify the boxes so long as they stick to default dimensions. If you have a clever idea in terms of how to make them better, GO FOR IT!

* Submission deadline is March 31st. We will then create a public vote based on user favorites. Winning entries will receive 3 free modelsets of their choice and bragging rights

Actually, the above images were from beta. I've changed the top of the box and the side lid to offer an inventory list. I'm also thinking of holding a skinning contest for the lids. I'll release the lids for various boxes for free, get people to skin them up in various themes and the winner(s) will receive free TerrainlinX swag. We'll then update the core file with the optional winning skin designs! I haven't worked all the details out yet but it seems like a fun idea to play around with.

My wife has already informed me that I need to get some better storage if I wish to continue to use our "shared" craft space.

Some ideas just come naturally I guess - I have been looking at a Betty Boop cartoon collection, in part for the lunchbox, so I can store some more.

A vertical file type box is a great idea Denny - the very nature of the walls makes them perfect for that type of storage.

GSD's are already made and tested. This is one of the most useful ideas. I'm one of those super anal guys when it comes to organising my parts and pieces. This is just a wonderfully well designed little product.

Although I think they should be skinned so you can use them on the table as well

not a bad idea, make the Himmil based set look like a buidling, as mentioned Sci-fi cargoish, or a mars station building, dwarven halls, or cave works a big block of stone... etc.

though with the the GSD files you could, in theory make them what every you want... ie get a texture in the middle of a page, print out the reg markes on the page, then use the Robo to cut it, and it turns out as what ever the bit of texture you made in the middle was

I really hope that someday soon we can just purchase boxes like these with pre-built terrain already in them and have it all shipped...

This looks to be a great idea. But have been wondering how to get these to work in a moist climate like ours - my cardstock lives in plastic boxes with an anti-damp sachet so that it doesn't warp.

Best solution I can think of is to cover the box in stick-on plastic film. That's worked for 30 years for my little black (cardstock) box of Traveller books, so it should do for cardstock terrain.

How easy will it be to do this with these boxes?

The way I see it (or at least how I use them) is to put the boxes inside a larger container. I mean, none of them are extremely large but they all play an important organizational role (and offer some basic protection).

So, get yourself one of those plastic drawer bins or just a single large plastic bin and stack these in there.

Great idea... the texture could be more fun. An 'old tome' or scene or even just wall textures so it looks like a building.

Then again, I suppose I can roll my own texture once it's out!

Disappointed PugilismWorks wasn't the choice. Ah well.

We'll be holding a box lid texture contest when we release these. From my perspective I had to come up with something practical, low ink usage, genre non-specific and quick-ish to kick out the door (lots already on my plate).

Once we have a few winners in we'll roll those lid designs back into the core product for everyone to enjoy!

As I'm new to papercrafting and haven't figured out how I should store it yet, I am really looking forward to this product.

Now that I'm seriously starting to build and need to store a number of walls, posts, and tiles ... this would be SERIOUSLY handy!

I hear ya. Once your collection starts to stack up, you really need this kind of thing to organize all those modular bits. It really does help when preparing for a layout!

I ended up mocking up my own version of this (yay, scrapbooking sills!) but it doesn't have the nice lid, or the textures, and ... sniffle ... it's just not the same!
