So, I was playing with my floor tiles for LoTDK and was looking into making some more specialty rooms, it is pretty easy, but the idea may be hard to follow for some, so I whipped up this tutorial with pretty pictures. It is an easy kitbash to do, and can be done without buying any special software or anything.

First, you need a couple pieces of software, GIMP, and PrimoPDF (This may not be needed, but I find it ensures accurately scaled prints)
Next you need an image to put on your floor, I highly suggest single color designs as they work well, check for Tribal or Celtic, these are easy to use.

So, where to begin, well, let's get a copy of the floor tile. So open your PDF, and find a bare floor tile you'd like to use. Select it and hit CTRL+C (this copies to your clipboard)



Next open up GIMP, when the program is launched simply hit CTRL+V and it will open a new image with your copied file. There you are a perfect flawless cope of the original.



Now, go an hit File - Open As Layer, and find your file. Don't fret if the scale is off with you source image, as long as the resolution is around half what you need it should be ok.



You'll need to clean up your image a bit to make it work, the first thing to do is strip the pattern of it's background and perform any alterations. Make your pattern have an alpha channel, in the Layers menu along the side, right-click on the patter and go to Add Alpha Channel. Now, use the little Magic Wand tool to grab all the white background, and hit delete, with a black and white image you can simply ramp up the Threshold to ensure no white artifacts are left.



Now, I am going to color mine and make it meld into the stone work, to do this, I first go to Colors - Colorize, then mess with the stuff, with a B&W file, you have to up the Lightness to make the color show, make your color nice and bright.



After you have done that, it is time to make it look like it belongs, to do so, go to the layer menu along the side, You'll see a drop down menu that says Mode, now have fun, my favorite modes are Multiply, Burn, Grain Extract (Inverts Colors), Grain Merge, Subtract (also Inverts Colors), and Color. For this example I stuck with Multiply.



Once done, Print to PrimoPDF, which will open a little dialog window, just save your PDF somewhere you can find it. It will open for you in Adobe, and then you can print it just like any other WWG product.

Once you have done this a couple times you can create a plethora of unique tiles to augment your builds with, these tiles can create a lot of atmosphere for your games. This simple technique can also be applied to walls and other areas of you games. Blood Splatters, Magic Circles, etc, can all be added with little effort.

EDIT: I noted last night that there is a flaw in my print method, my prints are not scaling right. Anyone know how to fix this without using MS Publisher (not the most common program, but it is what I have been using in the interum)
