Actually, I've used a "desert sand" colored cardstock before and it works just fine. I've also used a deep red with chunky dungeons to give it a really disturbing feel. Just enough of the red comes through that it feels like a dungeon in hell. I've used a dark tope with pubs and inns and that seems to help the wooden plank textures gain a bit more depth.

Actually, red and black, and possibly blue were my biggest curiosities. Nice to hear that red worked out well, blue may be the solution to the ice caverns idea from another thread, just print out CaveWorks in a lighter tone, and eneogh blue may show thru, red would work for bloody, hellish walls, and black or grey might change the tone of caveworks into a darker kind of place. Thanx zipdaddy, I will be looking into this further .

Do you still edge in black? Or does the cardstockk look at all good showing through? What about edging in other colors?

Colored card stock works best when printing with Black ink only. It provides enough color to complement the black texturing, giving the illusion of colored printing. It is not the same as full color printing on white, but it isn't bad.

Primarily, it is a technique to save on colored ink/ink cartridges. Edging should still be done in black, for best effect, IMO. Your mileage may vary. Proceed with unabashed abandonment! Cheers!

Agreed. Always edge your models, and black seem to work best. Unless you are doing a wood texture build in which case brown. Printing on colored cardstock really depends on resolution and printer quality. My epson photostylus does an exceptional job in full color on colored cardstock. You have to be logical with it though. If you choose an overpowering colored stock, it will wash out your textures and waste your ink. Sometimes printing black and white on colored stock does work very well, especially when you are trying to save ink. I've used village works and built certain key buildings in full color, and the bulk of the village on colored cardstock with black and white. It looked fairly decent and made the key buildings stand out to the players.

Robby, what brand of pens do you use? I've just used a black sharpie, not really thinking about it much. Now that you've brought it to my attention, though, I can't help but notice things like the black lines on wooden beams, etc.

Also, I've never seen pens with names for all the colors. Until you said pen, I thought you were nuts, and painting all the edges!
