At long last...WWG is pleased to announce that we'll be attending GenCon Indy 2010! We're spread out at GenCon in some interesting and big ways but we'll have to keep that nugget of info secret a little bit longer Corner booth 1334 is our official homebase though, kitty-corner to Mayfield Games and Steve Jackson Games (And the Family Fun Pavilion) and we hope to see many of you there!

Suffice to say this was a long time coming gang and we can't wait to meet you in person. We are planning a meet & greet for August 4th but location info is still pending.

Is the Ram a good option for a meet & greet? I've been looking for options online but its hard to judge using the scant info available. Knowing my luck I'd land us all in some snooty, upscale joint and we'd all get kicked out for being the good-natured drunks we are Anybody local or acquainted with the area?

The Ram is great but in my experience is packed wall to wall during GenCon. They offer a great themed menu and Warmachine shirts though.

The ram is awesome. Been there many times & I hope they still have the meatloaf sandwich. ..ambrosia. it can get crowded but I never had to wait more than 5 minutes for a table. They brew a special beer for gencon every year. Great food, drink, and service.

Heh heh heh - every place is packed to the gunnels during Gen Con. I ate mostly at Steak & Shake, not bad for a chain joint. Weber's Barbecue is also really very good. Just be prepared to do a lot of walking - Indie is one of those places that sprawls.

I am so very glad that you folks are finally making the trip - it is a great place to schmooze. Meet fellow game designers, talk shop, throw dice at each other.... I really wish that I were going this year, I didn't think that I would be able to, so I didn't sign up, but now I know that I should have.

If there is any possible way to get Garden of the Stonespeakers done in time then I very much recommend trying to do so - Paizo and Pathfinder have a HUGE following at Gen Con - having a build on your table will help enormously. (Also , there is a fair amount of factionalization going on along 4e and 3e/Pathfinder lines. The closest thing to a Holy War that I have seen outside of a Linux/Windows debate.)

Also, wear clean underwear and brush your teeth, because you never know when you might be hit by a car....

Heheh, you're right, Grump, there are few empty seats those 4 days anywhere.

Which has made me wonder why The Ram is the only standout 'We would like to do something special for the enormous gamer crowd' restaurant I can think of. I haven't had many *bad* restaurant experiences, though.

I'm excited that I get to go this year, moreso now because WWG is making a showing. Working at a game shop means I have to monkey knife fight my boss and coworkers for the chance to go.

And since my GenCon budget is reserved for things I can't order in easily, I'm eager to buy something at the booth. :3

The Ram sounds good but I'll look at a couple more options just to eliminate any wildcards. I'll make sure to post a new thread specific to the meet & greet when I have something more solid.

Respective to what we'll have at the table; there's something really BIG which I still can't talk about that will make a lot of store owners very happy. You'll find it at two locations on the CON floor (One HUGE display, one not so huge ). Trust me when I say, it won't be easily missed.

Besides that we'll have some GenCon exclusive products up for grabs and really good deals on a select group of PDF products.

The Ram is sounding like our best bet for the 4th meet and greet. I'll do an official thread for that soon.

Will there be any Wormhole demos happening? Can I help?

No demos for Wormhole are planned officially but I'm definitely open to supporting any fan based efforts. I have to split my time between the WWG booth and...elsewhere, so I'm a bit time challenged.

Try to enjoy yourself anyway - there's lots to do, lots to see. (And a building with a freakin train in it!) dance party was steampunk based, last time I went - lots of folks in costume.

I wish I was going to Gen Con, heck, I wish I could get some of those Gen Con exclusives.

'whee' costs more $$ than I have. There's a reason I don't have more WWG ownership badges (and my wife decided to send 3000 (yes, thousand) texts last month - we're allowed 500 - so things just got tighter).

I've never been... but I'm getting to a point in my life where I need to getting around to such things.

On the plus side, I'm far to tame to worry about whether what happens at Gencon stays at Gencon.

Holy smokes! Sounds like what my daughter did to her one of her old boyfriends one time. He about killed her because she sat on the cell chatting with her friend while watching TV. You know, right next to the land line which didn't use up minutes! I think the bill for that month was over $300.

But I know about tight budgets, that's why I've never gone, never can afford it!

It doesn't help that you're at a distance where you more than likely need to fly in, which is a large extra cost. Thankfully I'm only a 3 hour drive away so all that money saved goes into swag.

I hate to be a nay-sayer, but the Ram is not the best place for a meet and greet.
First, as already stated its always packed.
Second, they always have a movie playing, loudly, which causes people to need to shout to talk in the bar area (not so bad in the table area)
Third, even if you get a table quickly, service is not. I have had times where it has taken an hour to get my food after ordering due to the packed crowd there.
Yes, the Ram is a tradition and they do cater to the gamers, even so after managment changed (the guy who did all the WM stuff is gone to another bar a few blocks away, but the new guy is trying to fill his shoes as best he can), but I know that after going there for years I will not be going there this year thanks to the continuly increasing time it takes to get food. The thing to understand is each block you get farther from the convention center is a significant decrease in number of people present. If you can walk one block you can get to Stake and Shake and Alcatraz Brew House, two block the Ram, Webers Grill, PF Changs, Einstiens Bagles. Three blocks and you get the mall food court, which has a pretty good burrito place. Four blocks and you are in the fancy resturants (ocenaire) and Buffalo Wild Wings. A bit further you have the spaghetti factory. And all that is if you head East. There is little in the other directions. The only exception is the hidden TGIFridays in the Courtyard hotel which recently re-opened as construction on the big JW Marriott hotel is nearly complete.

I would suggest looking at Google Maps, pick a cuisine and find a place a few blocks away if you to have a convesation and get food in a reasonable amount of time. The whole city is aware when GenCon is and they anticipate the mad house, but some places staff up for it and others do not.

Great news. I can't wait to meet everyone. I live ouside of Indy. My suggestion for a place to eat and greet is Giorgios Italian restraunt. http://giorgiosindy.com Checkout their website. It's just off the Circle. Not as fancy as the Ram. Two large rooms with table and chairs, with two TVs. Three to four blocks from convention. I don't think they get big crowds from the convention. Comic book store on the same block. My two cents.

So my next question is what will WWG be bringing/selling at the booth itself? CD/DVDs of their products? will it be burn on demand or will they be themed packages (himmellville, SoM)? I have seen lots of different things from e-product companies. Last year Fat Dragon just had their stuff assembled and laid out, and gave out coupon codes on business cards if you asked nicely, but actually sold nothing on site. Where as the guys who make Dunjinni had DVDs you could buy, and then would get codes for the add-ons they sold that you would download yourself after the install.
