I thought Denny & Co. might go the pre-printed route, to prevent piracy, but even this won't work: just scan, edit, and print on card stock, much like we do now. Pirates could even create PDF's of their own scans, of the pre-printed materials, which they could freely distribute, as they do today (Illegally).

We have already had discussions on locking PDF's, and the issues with this approach (scanning, and recreating another, unlocked, PDF, is still possible, too). To eliminate piracy, card stock must go by the wayside, IMO. This "solution" would cause a paradigm shift of titanic proportions! I, for one, would hate to see this happen. To abandon the card stock terrain concept, would be a very bad thing for gamers. To that end, I suggest buying while you can, all the files you want. I have Castle Works Classic, and I am SO glad I have it! Yes, I have Castle Works Ulitmate, too, but I really like both!

We are in another 'golden age of gaming' -- enjoy it while it lasts! Savor it, and back up your PDF's! Cheers!

Hey, for once I'm not joining in on Doom 'n' Gloom (in Concert!) - I think what has people worried is the release time. They are seeing too many irons in the fire, but not enough cows, so they worry.

Goodness knows I check the WIP-O-Meter often enough in regards to Himmelveil to understand that! (C'mon baby, move, move!)

But creative projects always takes time (unless you are Chris, dang you!), and nearly always more time than you expected.

The palstic v. plastic frames. v. cardstock debate is interesting, tough Games Workshop did not exactly find the plastic framed cardstock leaping off the shelves this may have something to do with charging $30 (!) for a single cardstock 'n' plastic building. (Warhammer Quest was worse - $25 for a single new character...)

Plastic and paper both have their markets, though I suspect that preplainted plastic buildings might be beyond the reach of many gamers.

I'd like to point out something, too, that sometimes gets forgotten.


Remember folks, Denny does this to feed himself and his family. This is his livelihood, not his hobby. As much as I love his products, I want him to be able to eat first, then give us great stuff second. If his great stuff does not lead to eating ... well then, he's got to find something else that will. Plain and simple.

He came on here to share his enthusiam with us. Granted, its always difficult to share someone's enthusiam about stuff that you don't know about and they can't talk about (a lesson probably yet to be learned by WWG) - but still, it was more than most do, and shows us - well, showed me that Denny cares more about us than just our money.


And what happens? A huge thread of doom and gloom, "Denny is going to abandon us", blah blah blah blah BLAH. Sheesh, lighten up. If anyone can make this into a viable business model, its Denny and company. They've consistently moved in the right direction, with increases in product quality and communication. I trust that they are going to continue.

As for serving the customer, c'mon already. You been to any of the competitor sites in this business? Seen how responsive they are? Please. Apart from Mel (who is less of a competitor), there isn't a single company in this business that serves the customer better than WWG. Period. Face it, we're spoiled.

And I go back to the first point. If Denny can't make this into a viable business to support his family - and Paul's, and the others involved - then it really doesn't matter how well he serves the customer now, does it? I challenge you to tell me he's losing business because someone else out there is doing it better.

Anyone seen the movie Other People's Money? It wasn't Danny Devito's finest, but his speech about the last manufacturer of buggy whips is apropos. Denny could be the greatest, most efficient producer of cardstock terrain out there - but if the demand isn't there, that doesn't matter.


You know, all this incessant talk does is distract Denny away from what he needs to be doing. Lets give him a break already, and extend a little trust, and see what the future brings. I think by this point he's earned it, don't you?

I have to agree with robby here. Let's calm down and think about a few things.

Denny started a business designing and selling cardstock terrain. Not really an obvious choice to earn your living with, so I strongly believe that Denny did this because it is something he likes to do.
However, as we all know, pdf cardstock terrain is not the safest support for a business. If the "new series" of products is such a huge success than by all means it should become the primary focus of WWG. I think we do not run the risk that WWG will abandon cardstock terrain, after all Denny liked it so much that he started a business with it, so I assume it very unlikely that Denny will drop that product type completely.
A more secure and healthy WWG will benefit us all.

Other than that Denny has the problem that he is a terrible tease.
If he has an idea or a great opportunity he tells us about it. This of course causes expectations and, as a wise person once said: "It is the misfortune of all celebrated people not to fulfill afterwards the expectations beforehand formed of them. The real can never equal the imagined, for it is easy to form ideals but very difficult to realize them. ... However excellent something is, it never suffices to fulfill expectations.".
So if we have a problem with WWG it is that we are getting too much information. If Denny had just shown us the finished product in a couple of months I am pretty sure no-one would have summoned up world ending fears.

So far I have never been disappointed by a WWG product and I have no reason to believe that this will change.

I'm not sure what to say. This is an incredibly conflicted thread with many unique viewpoints. I guess I should be grateful that so many are so passionate about what we do here for better or for worse.

It's been over three years now since starting out down this path. If I was just in it for the money I would have tanked in year one. Because I made the conscious decision a long time ago to give this thing 100% and base my livelihood off of it I also needed to consider the bottom line (Pay the bills and all that jazz). After three years that bottom line hasn’t changed much but our growth and popularity has steadily increased. This tells me something very important about the nature of easily traded media and the pitfalls of the PDF format.

I told you that "something needs to change" and based on recent and past events I think you all understand where that’s coming from. What the nature of that change will be ultimately comes down to what is successful and what you as consumers support.

I would love to tell you that producing cardstock models will remain the primary focus here at WWG but based on that business model alone I am uncertain of WorldWorks future. It's not that I don't squeak by every month but there comes a point when you have to look at how hard you are working and balance it against the pay off. I've made a ton of sacrifices to make this business model work and it has affected ALL aspects of my life. Roughly 12 hour days for three years start to take their toll when piracy, file sharing and theft continually pound down your spirit and hurt your bottom line.

In terms of release dates, I think a few of you are forgetting just how small we are. Without giving you the extended breakdown, there is more to this business than just producing the end product and I am the only real caretaker here. Sometimes life will throw in a roadblock or two and timelines are affected. When compared to other businesses I think our release track record is pretty damn respectable considering just how limited our resources truly are.

All bull aside, this is my livelihood and I have to consider the stability of my family first and foremost. My passions for the craft and my dedication to the fans, prompts me to think of new ways of doing things because I don’t want to give in. What I am trying to do is create other ways to sustain WorldWorks and bring us into the general consciousness of gamers everywhere.

WhiteWolf/Sword & Sorcery are involved in this latest venture and I have every confidence that it will succeed given a fair shake. I’m asking you guys for a little faith and to remember that I will always relate to you on a human level. Your input and feedback will always be a primary deciding factor on the direction of future products. None of that will change.

Pirates is a cool game. I played it earlier this week again. Love the textures. The game itself is fun, though it does suffer from knowing who is going to win the game before it ends with really no chance of turning the fates.

One guy took the templates and enlarge them and glued them on foamcore and made a giant Pirate ship. hehehe.

I was just thinking that if you really wanted something that would help fill the coffers quickly (with relatively little work), a quality drop pod for Warhammer 40K would be the way to go. The new Space Marine codex has rekindled interest in them but the Forgeworld resin models are expensive and a lot of folks don't have the ability or interest to make their own. I know that there are a lot of irons in the fire right now, but Denny or Paul could knock out a sweet drop pod in their sleep. Of course you would have to call it something else so GW wouldn't claim IP infringement.
