You've done some very clever paper engineering here.

Next up, could you try to tackle sloped hillsides? They'd be incredibly useful for outdoor terrain of just about any genre.

Somewhere between the ramps and the roofs, you guys might have enough experience by now to make it work in a simple and elegant manner.

The tough thing with what you describe is making it so that miniatures can be set on them. The ramps already push that, so a steeper slope would be problematic.

Ramps already need to modded to really have Mini's sit on them. I was thinking for "sloped"hills maybe something more in the way of tweaked stairs.

More fluid and organic looking stairs could be an answer. Good call.

Modified stairs might be interesting. They do present a storage problem, though.
Another solution might simply be 1" high walls, so one could use 3x3 tiles or whatever as half-level transitions between one level and the next.

For true slopes, a 2" rise over 6" run does seem as steep as miniatures might handle. But the current 6x6 ramps don't break down for storage, and corner/angled slopes would also be handy for organic landscapes.

I'm sure there's something that could be done for those, though I admit my attempts to mock something up were not very successful.

1" high walls could be the solution and is actually something I have fiddled with digitally, but haven't taken the jump to physically build it.

Check out Terraclips for WWG's solution to that (as well as breaking down the ramps). Granted, those are using chipboard rather than cardstock so the extra rigidity gives them something to play with.
You can put chipboard through a robo cutter without a carrier sheet. It won't cut through, but it can provide a good guideline to cut through so that you can do notches and so forth.

Interesting suggestion; thanks. I do have a robo cutter. Any suggestions on where/how to find chipboard that will be compatible with the plastic Terraclips (assuming they will, eventually, hit the market)?

There's no way I can say for sure that they will be compatible, but based on the stated measurements grafix medium weight chipboard with a printed 80lb cardstock veneer on both sides is awful close to the stated thickness. You can buy pre-cut 6x6 and 4x6 tiles on amazon for a pretty reasonable price. I have all of the materials I need to "TCX"-ify some of the sets I use a lot of that won't be available as part of the initial TCX launch.
I would like to emphasize that there is NO cost benefit to making your own sets. You have to deal with cutting the 4x6 tiles down to walls, the 6x6 tiles down to 3x3 tiles, printing costs, and don't even get me started on what will be needed to do do ramps & roofs. The only real benefit is that you can do TCX conversions of the non-malifaux sets to build out more variety.
There are no off-the-shelf replacements for the clips themselves. As near as I can tell they are a very unique item, which would explain why they've had some difficulties with the manufacturing process.

I'm skipping building any Himmelveil or Thoumont's for the time being, in hopes that Terraclips will eventually fill that niche for me.

But I do like to tinker, and your ideas may eventually be perfect to make a few custom bits to use with those Terraclips sets - and maybe even for TLX Hinterlands slopes, if the WWG wizards don't find a better way to do it.

Not to throw the thread too far off topic but I wanted to chime in on a few relevant points here...

One of the things (among many others) that makes TerraClips so attractive is its pricepoint. When you really break it down and factor in material costs and labor, TerraClips is actually substantially cheaper than if you were to build things out yourself. That said, we also realize that once it hits market there will be demand for other settings & genres. We are working to address that

On the clips; It may not seem like it but they were a major feat of engineering (which is why they are patent pending) and partially why it was such a challenge to bring to market. The shape, the tolerances and the way they interact really is very unique. There are some extremely tiny tolerances at play and even more subtle modular interactions with the actual thickness of the matte board itself. Getting the factory up to speed on that was where most of our time went.

Anyway, the long and short of it is that we know people will attempt TerrainlinX to TerraClips conversions. But two things need to be said here; each system has their own benefits/unique intended usage and both will be supported with equal enthusiasm. We intend on stepping up our game and meeting demand on a variety of key genres with TerraClips. Of course we can't fill every single niche requirement but so long as the product is as popular as indicators show, we're going to try our best to hit the most common wants and needs.
