I installed the program and no tile_sets. tryed to add tiles and direct it to the file in the resource folder and tried another folder not in the director still nothing.

deleted all and downloaded a nother copy and same result.

I notices the icons for the tlx files are all plain white. if that means anything

im lost

You shouldn't have to add anything.
The tilesets should already be there when you unzip the planner.
Then you just have to run the TerrainlinX_Planner.jar
The program should automatically pick up any of the files that are in the tileset folder.
Is it not doing that?
Is the program launching, or do you not get the program to launch?

Also what do you mean, when you say the icons for the .tls files are white? Are you talking about when you look in the file system, if so, then that's not a problem.

What operating system, and version of Java are you running?

the icons apear as white sheets
in the resourse directory there is a folder labeled tile_sets
and has tlx. files in it.
I tried to add tile and point the windo to that file and nothing
i extracted the zipfile to my c drive and did not rename or move or delete any file

You could try to launch from a dos console, to see if there are any error message appearing.
This may help find the cause of your problem

same delima, program starts and finds no tiles, i can direct the add tile windo to them and I have ok'ed at folder level and ok'ed on a file also nothing..

I must have bought the beta version...

or it does not like Vista...like the rest of world...

reloading did not work.

Hmmm.... I personally have never run this on Vista, it's possible that the program has a problem there.


Has anyone ever run the planner on Vista?

I currently run it on vista as is and have had no problems, sorry. I just open the folder and double click on the executable jar file and it works like a charm.

Same for me, using vista, no prob.

That's why I suggested launching from a console, just in case there are some traces explaining why the planner doesn't find the tiles.

You may also try to redowload then planner and extract it in a new directory, just to check there was not a dowloading issue at first.

Try to extract to a folder deeper than the root or C:/. Vista and WIN 7 get protective about certain areas now, the Root directory is viewed as "protected' as is the Program directory thus most data for programs now go int the Program Data directory.

Make sure Vista is up to date as well as your Java. I run the planner on an XP box at work, a production Vista (64bit) box at home and on two different WIN 7 (64bit) boxes one a tower the other a touch screen laptop.

The issue could very well be where you are trying to run the app from. You can just move the folder via cut/paste to a different directory with the need to re-extract the program. If just moving did not work then do another extract in the new location, and if all else fails start with a fresh download, extract in desired location and run. -D²

That's definitely something to try. When I was getting back up to speed with desktop app development on Windows, I ran into issues with UAC and protected directories on Vista and 7--executables would not launch, and there were file permissions issues to contend with when the apps attempted to write data to Program Files. Once I figured it out and realized how it was all supposed to work, the problems went away.

Don't extract the folder to Program Files--extract to a subfolder in the root of the C:\ drive and see if it runs there. If that fails for the reasons Dsqr964 mentioned, then try extracting it to a folder inside your user folder. (Your user folder is located at C:\Users\username\), where "username" is whatever your user account name is.

downloaded to public documents and pulled up fine...
