I think Paul is talking about a simple optional insert that you could paste over pre-existing corridor floors. 3" (3 tiles) across the width of the corridor.

I'm still of the opinion that the gutter makes for a more realistic gaming solution. More room to move around those figures especially with large weapons. The half squares can be simply ignored if it's a mechanics issue.

I still think there's no reason we can't have *both*, as long as the gutters are done consistently.

Let's say we have a wall with a 1/2" gutter on both sides (e.g. a corridor on one side, a room on the other). That's really no different than a 1" wall!

So design everything "chunky", i.e. as if you have 1" walls everywhere. Since you can design onto a perfect 1" grid, there should be no need for any 1/2" fudge tiles anywhere. Then once you have the layout in place, simply replace the 1" wall by a 0" wall with two 1/2" gutters. Voila! no more fudge tiles...

Another benefit of designing it this way is that you'll get gutters in *all* the rooms, and the 1/2" gutter tile in front of a door will always line up with a 1/2" gutter tile on the other side of the door, forming a full 1" tile each time, allowing figures to stand "in the doorway".

One consequence is that you'll need special corner wall pieces everywhere, whether it's an internal or external corner. If you just let two wall pieces come together at a corner, the wall plates won't line up with the floor plates. So each corner would have to be 1/2" wall plate - corner - 1/2" wall plate.
